REPORTS TO: Senior Advisor of Strategy

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Strategic Director for Districtwide Professional Learning will support the development, alignment, and continuous improvement of the district’s professional learning systems, structures, and practices in alignment with the district’s strategic objectives and the Opportunity and Achievement Gaps (OAG) Policy. This role will help ensure that equity-centered practices remain foundational across all professional learning efforts, including the integration of culturally and linguistically sustaining practices (CLSP), inclusive instructional approaches, and evidence-based strategies that support the district’s diverse population of learners.

This position will serve as a strategic thought partner across departments to help strengthen coherence within the district’s professional learning ecosystem and support alignment between professional learning, instructional priorities, and strategic initiatives. The Strategic Director will also support the development and operationalization of districtwide academic strategy, especially in contributing to the implementation of rigorous, culturally responsive, and community-connected teaching and learning practices within the Hub School model.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the development and alignment of a coherent professional learning ecosystem that advances the district’s strategic priorities across schools, central offices, and external partners.
Convene and support collaboration among leaders responsible for professional learning across schools, central offices, and partner organizations to strengthen coherence, alignment, and shared understanding of high-quality adult learning.
Assist in the development and implementation of decision-making processes, planning structures, and districtwide scope and sequence guidance for professional learning aligned to contractual obligations and strategic priorities as well as internal research such as the recent professional development audit.
Help ensure professional learning efforts build staff capacity to effectively support the district’s diverse population of learners, with equity at the center of implementation and decision-making. (e.g. integration of culturally and linguistically sustaining practices (CLSP) and evidence-based approaches for supporting multilingual learners and students with disabilities.)
Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of a professional learning ecosystem that ensures professional development opportunities are vetted, cataloged, accessible, and aligned to educator growth and development plans.
Develop and implement systems for tracking, monitoring, and reporting professional learning participation, completion, compliance, and effectiveness across schools and departments.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) in the strategic plan and continuous improvement processes to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of districtwide professional learning initiatives.
Collaborate with Finance, Procurement, Legal, and other departments to strengthen systems and processes related to professional learning contracts, vendor management, budgeting, and policy compliance.
Support the development and maintenance of centralized communication systems, guidance documents, and accessible resources related to districtwide professional learning opportunities, requirements, and policies.
Analyze districtwide professional learning data, spending patterns, participation trends, and stakeholder feedback to inform strategic decision-making, resource allocation, and organizational improvement efforts.
Collaborate with the Hub Schools team and school leaders to support planning and operationalization of academic models that promote student competency through authentic, culturally responsive, and community-connected learning experiences, including projects, capstones, and performance-based demonstrations of learning.
Serve as a strategic thought partner for the district’s academic strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:

Master’s Degree in Education, Leadership, Public Policy, Organizational Development, or a related field, along with 3–5 years of experience in academic leadership, instructional leadership, strategy, or systems-level improvement work.
Demonstrated success managing and supporting complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives aligned to strategic priorities and organizational goals.
Strong understanding of equity-centered educational practices, culturally and linguistically sustaining practices (CLSP), and effective instructional supports for multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
Experience supporting professional learning systems, adult learning, coaching structures, or instructional improvement efforts.
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to gather, analyze, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data to inform strategy, planning, and continuous improvement.
Ability to apply research, root cause analysis, and improvement science principles to organizational and instructional challenges.
Excellent communication, facilitation, interpersonal, and organizational skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders across schools, central offices, families, and community organizations.
Experience working collaboratively with community-based organizations, external partners, and cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, and meet timelines in complex organizational environments.
Commitment to continuous learning, collaboration, and equity-driven improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:

Advanced graduate study in Education, Leadership, Organizational Change, or a related field.
Experience in teaching, school leadership, instructional coaching, or district-level academic support roles.
Experience with strategic planning, implementation planning, or organizational change management.
Experience managing partnerships, programs, budgets, or resource allocation processes.
Familiarity with Boston Public Schools’ districtwide and regional structures, systems, and initiatives.
Experience supporting competency-based, project-based, culturally responsive, or community-connected learning models.
