Our well-respected urology practice is seeking a detail-oriented, compassionate, and dependable professional to join our dedicated team.

The ideal candidate will share these values and enjoy helping patients navigate the insurance and authorization process with clarity and care.

Position Overview

The Insurance Verification and Prior Authorization Specialist plays an important role in supporting our patients, providers and clinical staff. This position is responsible for verifying insurance coverage, obtaining required authorizations, determining patient financial responsibility, and communicating important information to patients and staff.

Because this role involves frequent communication with patients, insurance carriers, pharmacies, and members of our healthcare team, excellent communication, organization, and follow-through are essential.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Communicating with patients regarding upcoming visits and insurance requirements
Verifying patient insurance eligibility, coverage, and benefits
Obtaining prior authorizations for outpatient services and procedures, following up with insurance carriers regarding pending authorizations, coverage questions, and documentation requirements
Determining estimated patient costs, including deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and non-covered services
Clearly explaining insurance and financial information to patients in a professional and compassionate manner
Communicating authorization and benefit information to providers, clinical staff and other appropriate team members
Maintaining accurate and timely documentation in the patient’s medical record
Identifying potential insurance or authorization issues before the patient’s scheduled visit or procedure
Helping ensure the delivery of high-quality, coordinated, and cost-effective healthcare services
Protecting patient confidentiality and following all applicable HIPAA requirements

Qualifications

Previous medical billing, insurance verification, prior authorization, or related healthcare experience is required
Strong knowledge of insurance eligibility, benefits, deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and prior authorization processes
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Professional, patient-focused, and compassionate approach
Strong problem-solving and follow-up skills
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
Experience working with electronic medical records and insurance portals is preferred

Schedule and Work Environment

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
