Reporting to the VP for Integrated Marketing, the Grant Writer & Research Specialist (GWRS) produces compelling proposals and ministry reports for foundations and major donors, and researches new grant opportunities. These materials, typically presented by the organization’s fundraisers, strengthen Bible League International’s (BLI) relationships with foundations and donors, and lay the groundwork for future partnership to fund BLI ministry initiatives. As such, the position is integral to meeting BLI’s Development income goals. Finished writing projects should clearly demonstrate a solid grasp of BLI’s mission and ministry programs as well as the donor’s impact.

The Grant Writer & Research Specialist also supports the Integrated Marketing team’s work through editing, proofreading, researching, and contributing to other writing projects as assigned. They also must demonstrate attention to detail, be well organized, and be able to work both independently and collaboratively. The GWRS must also be able to handle confidential information with a high level of integrity, prioritize tasks, be dependable, and manage a robust workload.

Duties

1. Prospect Research: Identify and assess medium to high level funding opportunities from foundations that align with Bible League’s mission.

2. Proposal Development: Write, edit, and submit high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and concept notes.

3. Relationship Management: Work with donor relations team members to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with current and prospective funders.

4. Grant Compliance & Reporting: Track awarded grants, ensuring all reporting requirements and deadlines are met, and monitoring project outcomes. Develop year-end reports to foundation and major donors that articulate and demonstrate the impact of their grants/gifts.

5. Collaboration: Work with marketing, donor relations, program, finance, and leadership teams to gather data, develop budgets, and align proposals and reports with organizational goals.

6. Mission Alignment: Ensure all proposals and communications adhere to the

organization’s Statement of Faith and core philosophies (Mission, Funding, and Leadership).

7. Case for Support Development: Translate spiritual impact and program outcomes into compelling narratives that resonate with foundations and donors’ own hearts for mission. Serve as a "storyteller" who represents the "mind, heart, and soul" of Bible League to the foundations and major donors who support it.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Organizational Relationships

Responsible to: VP Integrated Marketing.

Collaborate with: EVP-Advancement, Marketing Team, Donor Relations team, Program and Finance staff, Regional Directors and other field staff

Qualifications

1.Must be a Christian, having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Must also agree with our statement of faith and conduct his/herself in a Christ-like manner.

2.Bachelor’s or higher degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or English is preferred, and/or comparable experience and skills.

3.At least 3 years of experience writing grant proposals specifically for not-for-profit fundraising.

4.Proven track record of producing donor-centric communications. Familiar with foundation fundraising and/or able to quickly learn about foundation issues, trends, and developments

5.Cross-cultural experience working with international organizations strongly preferred.

6.Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Able to transform complex and often complicated material into highly readable, detailed, and inspiring cases for support of BLI.

7.Flexible, responsive, and able to balance a variety of activities while meeting deadlines, producing the highest quality of work.

8.Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

9.Strong attention to detail and excellent research skills, ability to prioritize writing assignments, and manage a varied and vigorous workload.

10.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word; CRM/Donor management software (e.g. Virtuous, Raiser’s Edge), and grant research databases (e.g., Foundation Directory Online).

11.Experience and understanding of the overall process/elements of donor communications.

12.Ability to travel 10-15% annually (domestic and international).

Standards of Performance

1. Final drafts/copy of print-ready material should be free of errors and consistent with Bible League International standards of communications, brand messaging guidelines, and donor messaging best practices.

2. The material should be prepared in a creative, persuasive style appropriate to the intended audiences and objectives as established with the VP of Integrated Marketing, and in alignment with BLI’s brand guidelines.

3. Deadlines must be met or changes to assigned deadlines must be secured from the VP or project manager for assigned reports and proposals.

4. Utilize time responsibly for maximum efficiency and effectiveness in producing high-quality materials that clearly communicate the global mission of Bible League International and the donor’s impact of lives around the world through the gift of God’s Word.

5. Demonstrate a consistent attitude of cooperation with all staff, both in the U.S. and overseas.

6. In day-to-day responsibilities, this position will carry out Bible League International’s core values which are:

Performance Evaluations

You will meet with your manager quarterly in alignment with our fiscal year to discuss your accomplishments and priorities.
