Raybourn Group International Director of Membership
Raybourn Group International (RGI) is seeking a full-time associate executive director to join our Indianapolis office.

Work Schedule:
Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., with flexibility as needed. The position allows a hybrid schedule with up to two remote workdays per week.
Travel Requirements:
This position requires travel by air 2-3 times per year (approximately 2 weeks of travel). While at the event, must be able to work extended hours. Some international travel may be required.

Responsibilities:
The Associate Executive Director serves as the Executive Director’s primary internal partner to provide leadership across operations, governance, membership, volunteer engagement, and organizational effectiveness. The Associate Executive Director ensures that staff, volunteers, and resources are aligned to achieve strategic objectives while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This role also leads membership development efforts, driving recruitment, retention, engagement, and member value initiatives that support long-term organizational growth and impact.
Board of Directors and Governance
- Lead the preparation, coordination, and compilation of Board and Executive Committee material in partnership with the Executive Director.
- Oversee the Code of Ethics grievance process when initiated by reporting parties.
- Draft initial weekly update to the Board of Directors for review by Executive Director.
- Attend and participate in Board of Director meetings.
- Assist in the production of meeting materials, reports and dashboards.
- Recommend, review, draft and uphold Association policies and procedures.
Strategic Plan & Operations
- Participate in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic plan goals and organizational initiatives.
- Monitor progress on strategic plan objectives and provide the Board of Directors with regular reports on accomplishments, challenges, and next steps from staff and volunteer leaders.
- Support annual budgeting, monthly financial review preparation, and audit or financial review activities.
- Assist in monthly financial reviews.
- Lead annual audit/financial review activities.
Volunteer Leadership
- Work with the appropriate committee(s) to identify programs/services to generate non-dues dollars for the Association.
- Provide assistance and oversight to various taskforces to enable an efficient and effective decision-making process.
- Offer staff perspective on organizational priorities and challenges.
Membership Development
- Leads the development and implementation of innovative membership strategies to advance the Associations mission.
- Use the membership database system to support Association initiatives.
- Oversee dues-related processes and procedures.
- Monitors industry trends and proactively adjusts membership programs to address emerging needs.
- Oversee follow-up with non-renewed members.
- Generate reports and dashboards to provide Association staff with the necessary insights into membership data.
- Lead measurement of the effectiveness of current membership programs and services and make recommendations to leadership for their future status.
- Assist the Member Services Coordinator with exit interviews and calls to lapsed members.
- Oversee member engagement initiatives and benchmarking, including volunteer recruitment/retention; encouraging members to participate in events, programs and services.
- In coordination with the Director of Communications and Marketing, assist in the creation of membership materials for prospects, new members and current member retention.
- Identify and recommend member benefits/opportunities/services that strengthen member educational and networking opportunities.
- Manage, review, distribute and produce the Association’s annual membership awards program.
- Lead strategic discussions related to award categories, addition of awards, removal of awards, and any other necessary changes.
- Evaluate the success of awards programming.
- Provide marketing team members with information for eNews, new member press releases.
Events & Education
- Support the development of program proposals for collaborative organizations on behalf of the Association.
- Partner with the Director of Education and Meetings with site visits and selection of future sites.
- Attend and provide reasonable staff support at events and represent the Association.
- Lead the design and implementation of Annual Conference registration and event design using AMS technology.
- Oversight of new member and volunteer recognition at the Annual Conference.
Supervisory Responsibility and Staff Connections
- Supervises and mentors one employee.
- Collaborates with marketing and meetings directors on cross-functional projects.
RGI Project & Strategic Support
In addition to supporting assigned client responsibilities, this position plays an important role in supporting the broader operations and growth of Raybourn Group International. Responsibilities may evolve over time based on organizational priorities, client needs, and the individual's strengths and interests.
Potential responsibilities include:
- Provide operational and project management support for RGI initiatives and internal operations.
- Assist with process improvement efforts, documentation, and special projects that enhance organizational effectiveness.
- Support membership functions across multiple client associations.
- Learn new systems, processes, and subject matter areas quickly to support evolving client and organizational needs.
- Serve as a flexible team resource, stepping into new responsibilities and client assignments as organizational priorities change.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and recommend solutions that enhance efficiency and member value.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicant should demonstrate the ability to coordinate all phases of the association’s membership strategy and be able to work closely with the Executive Director and other staff members to execute the work of the association, and have:
- Education level of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- 8 years of experience in membership association management, preferrably with trade associations.
- Proven ability to develop and execute membership strategies.
- Experience in volunteer management.
- Ability to interact comfortably and professionally with members and potential members virtually and in-person.
- Familiarity with association management software (AMS) with the ability to quickly learn new systems and technology.
- Proficient in most Microsoft Office applications (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and AMS/CMS platforms.
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail while keeping the overall goals of a project in mind.
- Proven ability to work as part of a team.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment.
