Full Job Description

Job Summary:

The Laser Operator – Level 2 is responsible for independently operating CNC laser cutting equipment to cut sheet metal parts according to work orders, drawings, and specifications. This role requires a higher level of skill, consistency, and judgment than Level 1, including the ability to verify setups, monitor quality, and resolve routine issues with minimal supervision.

This position is a key execution role supporting stable production flow by producing quality parts on time, preventing rework, and remaining flexible across work centers to help convert backlog into on-time, shippable product.

Responsibilities:

Laser Operation & Production Execution

Independently operate CNC laser cutting machines in accordance with established procedures.
Load and unload raw material and finished parts safely and efficiently.
Execute laser cutting operations per work orders, travelers, drawings, and specifications.
Verify correct program, material type, thickness, and revision prior to running jobs.
Monitor machine operation, cut quality, and part condition throughout production.
Make minor machine adjustments within defined limits and escalate issues beyond scope.
Identify and correct basic quality or process issues before parts move downstream.
Execute work in the correct priority and sequence to support daily production and shipment commitments.

Operate and support laser cutting operations on equipment including, but not limited to:

Apelio III 2510
EMLK 3610NT
Lasmac 1212
Amada Fiber LCG 3015AJ
Bystronic ByStar 3015
Bystronic BySprint Fiber

(Level 2 operators may assist with setup verification and troubleshooting but are not responsible for advanced programming or lead-level process ownership.)

Operational Turnaround & Work-Center Flexibility

Working the correct job, revision, and priority
Maintaining steady output aligned to production needs
Avoiding unauthorized workarounds or self-directed sequence
Remain flexible and available to work in other work centers or departments (including deburr, grinding, assembly support, material handling, or general shop support) when laser workload is low, delayed, or completed, in order to:
Support bottleneck or high-priority operations
Reduce WIP aging
Maintain continuous production flow toward shipment
Support cross-training efforts and assist in training Level 1 laser operators as assigned.

Quality, System & Housekeeping Discipline

Perform basic visual inspections to ensure parts meet quality requirements.
Identify parts for inspection as required by quality procedures.
Accurately update travelers and system transactions as instructed.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Follow all safety, quality, and standard work requirements.

Essential Functions & Physical Requirements

Physical demands (lifting up to 35 -50 lbs) when needed.
Pushing up to 50lbs when needed
Loading and unloading material (25lbs)
Walking about 10%
Stationed about 85%
Knelling, squatting, bending, twisting when needed 5%

Skills:

Intermediate mechanical aptitude.
Ability to independently follow written and verbal work instructions.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, travelers, and job documentation.
Strong attention to detail and quality.
Ability to identify basic process or quality issues and escalate appropriately.
Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment.
Willingness to be cross-trained and support other work centers.
Team-oriented mindset with a focus on execution and reliability.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum three (3) years of laser operation or related fabrication experience preferred.
Prior experience operating CNC laser equipment preferred.
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions.
Reliable attendance and flexibility to work overtime or weekends as required.

Pay: $25.61 - $28.00 per hour
