Accounting Operations & Development Manager

About the Role

Edwards & Associates, PC is seeking an experienced Accounting Operations & Development Manager who is passionate about both accounting excellence and helping others grow.

This role is designed to strengthen the quality, consistency, and scalability of our accounting services. The Accounting Operations & Development Manager serves as a technical resource, coach, trainer, and process improvement leader for the accounting team. Rather than carrying a large client workload, this role focuses on developing Staff Accountants and Bookkeepers, improving workflows, supporting software adoption, and helping ensure accounting services are delivered accurately, efficiently, and consistently across all teams.

The ideal candidate enjoys solving operational challenges, mentoring developing accountants, improving systems, and helping build a stronger organization.

What You'll Do

Train, mentor, and develop Staff Accountants and Bookkeepers through coaching, feedback, and technical guidance
Review selected accounting work and financial packages to identify training opportunities, recurring issues, and quality concerns
Assist in developing accounting standards, best practices, and quality-control procedures
Help establish consistent accounting workflows across teams
Support onboarding and training of new accounting staff
Monitor recurring accounting issues and develop solutions that improve team performance
Serve as a technical accounting resource for Team Leaders and Staff Accountants
Lead accounting software adoption initiatives and help maximize utilization of available technology and automation tools
Assist in developing documentation, training materials, and standard operating procedures
Support quality review and oversight of outsourced accounting work
Partner with Team Leaders to improve efficiency, workflow management, and staff development
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, client service delivery, and operational effectiveness
Assist with complex accounting projects, special engagements, and technical accounting matters as needed
Maintain a limited client workload sufficient to remain current with firm processes and client needs

What We're Looking For

Bachelor's degree in Accounting
5+ years of public accounting experience preferred
Strong financial statement preparation and review experience
Demonstrated experience mentoring, training, or developing accounting staff
Strong understanding of accounting principles and small business financial reporting
Experience identifying and implementing process improvements
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to identify root causes rather than simply correct errors
Strong organizational skills and follow-through
Ability to influence and coach others without relying solely on formal authority
QuickBooks Online and Excel experience required
Experience with accounting workflow software and technology adoption initiatives preferred
Lacerte or similar tax software experience preferred; CCH Axcess experience is a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills
