Full Job Description

Job Summary:
Pediatric Associates of Dallas is the largest independent physician owned Pediatric practice in the DFW Metroplex. Our vision is to be the trusted pediatric practice of choice in the communities we serve in order to help children and families live their fullest and best lives. Families have been choosing PAD for their child’s pediatric needs for more than 50 years. With two convenient locations, we are able to provide excellent, personalized, and compassionate pediatric care to our patients.
We are looking for a dynamic pediatric Phlebotomist to join our team in Plano, Texas. We offer flexible schedules available for work/life balance, competitive compensation and benefits and the opportunity to join a premiere group of physicians committed to fostering patient trust.
The successful candidate will be a strong culture fit and work closely as a team with our nurses and physicians and will assist in delivering exceptional care to each and every patient.
The Phlebotomist will obtain and prepare specimens for analysis and performs various screening tests.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture on pediatric patients.
Performs heel sticks on newborns for newborn screening and bilirubin tests.
Collects nonblood specimens such as urine, and throat swabs for laboratory testing.
Performs screening tests and reports results.
Processes specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing. Prepares specimens for reference laboratory dispatch and testing. Call reference labs for stat pickups. Resolves ambiguous and/or unusual test orders by contacting the physician of the order, pathologist, nursing station, or reference laboratory. Refers unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification before collecting samples or processing specimens. Makes the supervisor aware of unresolved orders.
Contributes to the general laboratory functions and institutional needs. Attends regular department staff meetings and in-service training. Maintains compliance with laboratory and pediatric policies and procedures, and safety practices. Keeps work area neat and clean and restocks daily supplies.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Must satisfactorily complete the on-the-job training provided by the Phlebotomy/Accession Lab

Supervisor during a probationary period unless extension is granted by the laboratory manager.

Good communication skills.
Knowledge of medical terminology and certification for CPR preferred.

Education and Exper ience:

High school diploma or the equivalent.
Previous experience or education in a health-related field helpful.
Phlebotomy certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Ability to move 30 to 40 pounds to stock supplies and move or support patients.
