Medical Physics Assistant – Fort Worth, TX

Residency Preparation Track

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) is seeking a Medical Physics Assistant (MPA) to join our radiation oncology team in Fort Worth, Texas. This position is primarily based at our downtown Fort Worth office, with travel to our outlying clinics across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex as needed. It is designed for a recent CAMPEP graduate preparing to apply, or reapply, for residency. The MPA will work directly alongside our clinical physics team, performing real clinical work under supervision while building the experience and portfolio that strengthen a residency application.

We recognize that the current residency match is highly competitive and that many strong, well-trained graduates are looking for meaningful clinical experience during their gap years. We are prepared to invest substantial time and training into candidates who are willing to work hard, learn quickly, and be reliable. In return, the MPA will leave this position a demonstrably stronger residency applicant.

Because we invest meaningfully in training, we are specifically seeking candidates able to commit through the next full residency match cycle. Candidates pursuing off-cycle residency placement are not a fit for this role.

What You Will Learn and Do

Under the direct supervision of board-certified physicists, the MPA will develop hands-on competence in:

Patient-specific QA for IMRT, VMAT, and SRS/SBRT
Linac QA — daily, monthly, and annual
Treatment planning in Eclipse, including participation in SRS/SBRT cases
A defined clinical project, scoped with the Director of Physics & Dosimetry within the first 60 days, developed over the year under mentorship, and presented at an end-of-term departmental review. The project is intended to produce a deliverable suitable for a residency application portfolio. Example project areas include QA program improvement, commissioning support / documentation, protocol standardization, and new program implementation.

Residency and Career Support

We are committed to supporting the MPA’s transition into residency:

Active mentorship from a team of 6 board-certified physicists
Strong letters of recommendation from board-certified physicists who have worked with you directly and can speak to your clinical readiness
Exposure to an upcoming TrueBeam commissioning (winter 2026–early 2027) and ARIA v18 upgrade — unusual breadth of experience for an MPA
Educational stipend program for exceptional candidates. For exceptional and eligible candidates who match into residency, CCBD may offer an educational stipend up to $15,000 per year during residency training, in exchange for a return commitment to CCBD as a staff physicist upon residency completion. This program is selective and offered at the discretion of CCBD.

Qualifications

Willingness to commit through the next full residency match cycle (candidates targeting off-cycle residency placement are not a fit for this role)
MS or PhD from a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics graduate program (required)
Strong academic record and references from graduate program faculty
Demonstrated work ethic, reliability, and a clear interest in clinical medical physics as a long-term career
Familiarity with Varian Eclipse, ARIA, and TrueBeam is a plus but not required
Programming experience (C#, Python, or MATLAB) is a plus
Clinical rotation or internship experience is a plus

About the Practice

CCBD is a physician-owned, community-based oncology practice and part of the OneOncology network, serving multiple locations across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Our radiation oncology program covers 7 physical locations supported by 9 linear accelerators (5 TrueBeams, 4 C-Series) and 2 HDR afterloaders. Imaging resources include PET/CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, CT, X-ray, and Ultrasound. Physics equipment includes iRT IQM, SRS MapCHECK, ArcCHECK, IC Profiler, PerFRACTION, and a full complement of water tanks, detectors, chambers, and electrometers. The MPA will be exposed to the full breadth of a modern community practice.
