Fitness Specialist, Medical Fitness. Mount Sinai. 40 hours scheduled with 38 paid hours guaranteed. Up to $6,000 in paid tuition.
Redefine Fitness. Mount Sinai, NY. Full time.
Pay: $17.00 an hour for your first 14 days, then $27.00 an hour. Scheduled 40 hours a week with a guaranteed minimum of 38 paid hours every week. Overtime at $40.50. Medical, dental and vision with employer contribution, and a 401(k) with a 1% employer match.
Up to $6,000 in tuition assistance at SUNY Suffolk County Community College, tied to the Fitness Instructor apprenticeship registered with the New York State Department of Labor, which Redefine Fitness is a participating employer in.
In county tuition at SUNY Suffolk is $3,025 a semester full time, or $252 a credit part time, plus roughly $460 a semester in fees. So $6,000 covers about one full year of tuition, or about 24 credits part time. An associate degree is 60 credits. We are not going to tell you we are paying for your whole degree, because we are not. We are paying for a serious piece of it while you work here, and we would rather you see the arithmetic now than find it out in September.
The apprenticeship itself is 2,000 hours of on the job training plus 244 hours of classroom instruction. At 38 paid hours a week, this seat completes it in about a year, the fastest of any seat we have. If earning the credential quickly is the point, this is the seat that does it. If you want the exercise science degree and money is what has been stopping you, this job moves that.
THE THING NOBODY ELSE ON THIS JOB BOARD WILL GIVE YOU
38 paid hours a week, guaranteed, in writing.
Go read the other trainer listings. Almost every one pays you per session. Client cancels, you do not get paid. Slow January, you do not get paid. Their schedule is a suggestion and your rent is not.
Here that risk is ours, not yours. You are scheduled for 40. If we cannot fill 40, you are still paid for 38.
At 40 scheduled hours that is $1,080.00 a week and $56,160 a year.
At the 38 hour guarantee that is $1,026.00 a week and $53,352 a year.
Overtime, when approved, is $40.50 an hour on top.
$53,352 is the floor. Not the target, the floor. It is the number you make on our worst week.
THREE THINGS THAT ARE IN THE OFFER LETTER YOU SIGN
This is the part that actually separates us, so we are going to be blunt about it.
The Redefine Standard raise ladder, the quarterly bonus and the tuition benefit are written into the offer letter you sign. Not a handbook. Not a slide in orientation. The document with your name on it.
Most gyms put their bonus scheme in a handbook they can rewrite on a Tuesday. Ours is a term of your employment agreement.
FIRST, THE PART MOST ADS HIDE
Every Fitness Specialist we hire starts at $17.00 an hour for 14 calendar days. Every seat, every hire, experienced or not. Here is exactly how it works.
Rate during onboarding: $17.00 an hour, the 2026 Suffolk County minimum wage.
How long: 14 calendar days from your start date. Not 30. Not 60. Not until we feel good about it.
What clears it: a written eleven point checklist we hand you on day one. You keep a copy and it gets signed off line by line as you clear it.
Day 14: a decision date, in writing, every time. Either you step to $27.00 on the next pay period, or you get one documented 14 day extension with the specific open items named, or we part ways. Never a silent continuation.
Hours during onboarding: the 38 hour guarantee applies from day one.
You will know on day one what you have to do to earn the full rate. Nobody is going to keep you at $17.00 and hope you do not notice.
YOUR FIRST QUARTER DOES NOT COUNT AGAINST YOU
The quarter you are hired in and complete onboarding does not count for or against your performance evaluation. KPI tracking starts at the beginning of the first full calendar quarter after your onboarding clears.
Bonus eligibility starts at exactly the same point. The quarter you are hired in is not evaluated and it is not bonus eligible. It does not count in either direction: nothing in it is held against you, and nothing in it earns you a bonus. Your first shot at the quarterly bonus is your first full calendar quarter after onboarding clears.
Nobody here gets judged on the quarter they spent learning the system. You get a clean quarter to learn the floor, the clients, the software and the Standard before a single number is measured against you.
WHAT WE ACTUALLY DO
We run two private personal training facilities on the North Shore of Long Island. Our mission is to redefine the limits of medicine through fitness.
Our clients are not people shopping for a gym. They were sent by a doctor. Something in their health has to change and they are ready to spend real money on a plan that works. Average sale is over $2,200.
You are not counting reps for someone chasing a New Year's resolution. You are running clinical grade programming for people who are motivated, informed and paying attention.
This role reports to a Shift Lead.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Programming. Built to the client's assessment, their goals and their timeline. Not a template.
The scans. InBody at Day 0, Week 6 and Week 11. The Week 11 scan is where a client sees what twelve weeks actually did to their body. It is the most important thirty minutes in the program and it is yours.
Reassessments on schedule. Every client, every cycle. Real data, honest feedback, clear next steps.
Specialty workshops. One you attend every year, and one you build and run every year. Both. This is a requirement of the job, not an extra credit project. You pick a topic you actually know, you build it, and you run it for our clients.
Content and marketing. You participate in content creation and marketing initiatives as directed. We build this brand in public and you are part of that. Also a requirement, not a volunteer sign up sheet.
Keeping your clients. More on this below, because it is the part most gyms never put in writing.
HOW YOU GET PAID
$27.00 an hour once you clear onboarding. Every hour recorded. Overtime paid at $40.50. This role is hourly and non exempt. It is not salaried, so nobody can quietly turn 40 hours into 55.
Then there is The Redefine Standard, our annual season. One point equals one dollar of weekly business you move. A client you refer who signs and stays 30 days is worth their weekly rate in points plus cash. A client at risk who you save is worth their weekly dollars. An upgrade is worth the difference.
Where you finish the season sets your raise. It is a permanent dollar raise to your pay, roughly one a year, and it stacks as you climb.
- Silver: plus $500
- Gold: plus $1,000
- Platinum: plus $2,000
- Diamond: plus $3,500
That is not a review where someone decides how they feel about you. Your rank is on a board that updates every morning at six, and the ladder itself is in your signed offer.
Cash on top of points:
- Client referral that signs: $300, rising to $400 at Platinum and $550 at Diamond
- Every upgrade or add on you close: $50
- Supplements: 15% of the sale
- Quarterly bonus: $200, $500 or $1,000 on hitting your ratio and clearing all four gates below
And a referral bounty every time you send us someone we hire. Half at their day 30, half at their day 90.
- Sales Executive, full time: $2,000
- Fitness Specialist, full time: $2,000
- Sales Executive, part time: $750
- Fitness Specialist, part time: $750
- Any other full time role: $1,000
- Any other part time role: $500
Both halves require your referral to still be employed and in good standing on that date.
Gold pays for your next certification in full.
We are going to be straight about the bonus system, because it is new. The first season started July 18, 2026 and the first quarterly checks land in October. Nobody has completed a full season yet. So we are not going to print a big earnings number and let you assume it is typical, because no Fitness Specialist here has earned one yet. What we will do is show you the real board and every current trainer's actual numbers in the interview, and let you judge for yourself.
TWO STANDARDS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU APPLY
The bonus ratio is your Combined Revenue divided by your wages for the quarter. Combined revenue is the training revenue you produce, plus upgrades and referrals you bring in, minus cancellations on your clients. You can calculate your own number any day of the week.
- A 3.5 ratio pays $200
- A 4.0 ratio pays $500
- A 4.5 ratio pays $1,000
Hitting the ratio is not enough on its own. The bonus is all or none across four gates and every one has to clear.
1. You are past your grace period and you were employed the full quarter being measured. Bonus eligibility starts at your first full calendar quarter after onboarding clears. The quarter you are hired in is not evaluated and is not bonus eligible.
2. You are not on a performance improvement plan.
3. You are inside your Trainerize limit, which means fewer than 5 misses.
4. You produced $25,000 or more in training revenue that quarter.
Miss one gate and the bonus pays nothing, even at a 4.5 ratio. Run your own number before you count on that check.
The other end of that same ratio: below 2.0 in a quarter and you go on a performance improvement plan. One quarter under 2.0, not two. That is the only revenue based trigger we have and we are publishing it here so you see it before you apply rather than after you sign. Your hiring quarter is exempt, same as everything else in the grace period. The Trainerize miss ladder below is a separate count with its own performance plan trigger.
Cancellations count against you, on purpose. If a client on your book cancels, that revenue comes off your combined number and your ratio drops. Keeping clients is the job, not a bonus round. Most gyms pay you to sell and never mention retention. We put it directly in the formula.
Trainerize logging is a hard standard. Every workout logged, every session, on time. Misses are counted and they escalate. At 3 you are not eligible for a raise, at 5 not eligible for commissions, at 7 you are on a performance plan, at 8 it is a termination conversation. We put the ladder in the ad so it is never a surprise on a Friday.
READ THIS PART BEFORE YOU APPLY
This is not a floor monitoring job and it is not a commission only job. You are paid hourly for every hour and guaranteed 38 of them, which means we carry the risk of a slow week, not you. In exchange we expect you to actually work the Standard: ask for referrals, catch clients who are drifting before they cancel, and close the upgrade when the Week 11 scan makes the case for you.
If you want to train clients and go home and never think about the business, this is a fine job and the guarantee still protects you. If you want the ladder, it is there and every number in it is published.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- A current NCCA accredited certification. NASM, ACE, NSCA, ACSM or equivalent.
- Current CPR and AED.
- A bachelor's in exercise science, kinesiology or a related field. Preferred, not required. A great trainer with a cert and five years of real clients beats a degree with none. And if you want the degree, see the tuition benefit above.
- Comfort with real medical history. You will see post PT, post op, GLP-1, osteoporosis, blood sugar and balance cases. We train you on our side of it.
- Reliable transportation. This seat is based in Mount Sinai and occasionally covers Stony Brook. Drive time between the two during a scheduled shift is paid.
- Willingness to attend one specialty workshop a year, build and run one specialty workshop a year, and take part in content and marketing work when we ask. These are requirements of the role.
- A background check after a conditional offer. Our clients arrive on physician referral and you work with them one on one, so we screen. A record is reviewed individually under New York Correction Law Article 23-A and does not automatically disqualify you.

Application Question(s):
- This role is measured on published metrics: every session logged in Trainerize the same day, InBody scans at Day 0, Week 6 and Week 11, a miss ladder where 3 misses costs your raise, 5 costs your commissions, 7 puts you on a performance improvement plan and 8 is a termination conversation, and a quarterly revenue ratio below 2.0 that puts you on a performance improvement plan. Are you comfortable working to those standards?
- Which NCCA accredited certification do you currently hold, when does it expire, and is your CPR and AED card current?
- Every Fitness Specialist starts at $17.00 an hour for 14 calendar days, then moves to $27.00 on clearing a written eleven point checklist you receive on day one. This seat is scheduled 40 hours a week at our Mount Sinai location with a guaranteed minimum of 38 paid hours. Are you able to start on those terms?
