Full Job Description

The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality clinical and administrative support under the direction of the physician or advanced practice provider. This role assists with patient care, documentation, procedures, and quality initiatives while ensuring an exceptional patient experience. The Medical Assistant maintains a professional, team-oriented work environment that supports patient safety, efficiency, and excellent customer service.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities

Escort patients to examination rooms in a courteous and professional manner.
Obtain and accurately document vital height, weight, medical history, medications, allergies, and chief complaint.
Perform medication reconciliation at each patient visit.
Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during examinations and office procedures.
Provide patients with prescriptions, educational materials, referrals, and after-visit instructions as directed by the provider.
Assist with durable medical equipment (DME) fitting and patient education.

Documentation and Care Coordination

Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Ensure laboratory reports, imaging results, consultations, and outside medical records are available and uploaded before patient appointments.
Communicate test results and provider recommendations to patients as directed.

Clinical Operations

Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked examination rooms.
Monitor medical supply inventory and notify management of replenishment needs.
Check medication and supply expiration dates and maintain proper storage.
Clean and disinfect equipment and patient care areas according to infection prevention standards.
Adhere to OSHA, CDC, HIPAA, and infection control guidelines.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including MIPS/MACRA and other regulatory programs.
Travel to satellite office locations as needed to provide coverage.
Attend required staff meetings, continuing education, and mandatory training.
Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsEducation

High school diploma or GED required.
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.

Experience

One to two years of clinical medical assistant experience required..
Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems preferred.
Experience in a specialty medical practice is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures.
Ability to accurately obtain and document patient information.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced medical office.
Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, infection prevention, and patient confidentiality requirements.
Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative healthcare team.
Demonstrates professionalism, compassion, and a commitment to exceptional patient care.
