Gratiot County is seeking a detail-oriented, customer-focused professional to join our Treasurer's Office as a Deputy Treasurer II. This position plays a vital role in administering property tax collections, delinquent tax programs, financial transactions, and state tax-related programs while providing exceptional service to taxpayers, local governments, financial institutions, and the public.

What You'll Do
As Deputy Treasurer II, you will:
- Assist taxpayers and the public with questions regarding property taxes, delinquent taxes, payment plans, and foreclosure processes.
- Process tax payments, receipts, deposits, and daily financial reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate tax records and update property ownership, mailing, and mortgage information.
- Administer delinquent tax payment plans and assist with foreclosure administration.
- Coordinate Principal Residence Exemptions (PRE), Board of Review adjustments, Michigan Tax Tribunal matters, Veteran Exemptions, and other state-required tax programs.
- Certify deeds for recording and maintain parcel files, title information, GIS maps, and legal documentation.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail and departmental deposits.
- Sell and maintain dog license records.
- Support the County Treasurer and Chief Deputy Treasurer with daily operations and special projects.
What We're Looking For
Successful candidates will have:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Additional coursework in accounting or data processing preferred.
- One to two years of experience working with tax records or accounting-related financial processing.
- Experience using computerized accounting systems, databases, and spreadsheets.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
- Ability to manage confidential financial and taxpayer information with professionalism and discretion.
Preferred Knowledge
Experience or familiarity with:
- Michigan property tax administration
- Financial reconciliation and accounting principles
- BS&A software and GIS systems
- Microsoft Office applications
- Database management and recordkeeping
