Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The Facilities Director at the Jackson YMCA intentionally fosters a mission-driven culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also overseeing the maintenance and housekeeping aspects of YMCA facilities and vehicles.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in facility management or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

2. Three or more years of experience in facility management or a closely related field.

3. CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required within 30 days of hire.

4. Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, carpentry, housekeeping, and other related areas and associated equipment.

5. Skills in supervision and budget management.

6. CDL and Pool operator certifications required within 150 days of employment.

7. Ability to complete Boiler Operator or Stationary Engineer registration/license issued through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).

8. Ability to secure and/or current license to drive school buses with a driving record that meets YMCA standards.

9. Ability to be on call to respond to safety and emergencies at the facilities within 15 minutes.

10. Highly organized with a proficiency in computer software. Ability to solve problems and interact effectively with vendors, customers, and site visitors.

11. Begin to work towards YMCA Team Leader certification within the first year.

Essential Functions

Provides overall coordination of facility (including maintenance and housekeeping for multiple buildings and two pools) and fleet maintenance and oversight.

1. Preventive maintenance and facility operations in accordance with federal, state, and local policies and best practices of the YMCA.

2. Oversee all contractors that work in the facility and grounds.

3. Request and review bids and recommend the selection of contractors.

4. Work with outside agencies such as fire, health, building departments, etc., to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds.

5. Direct and oversee facility operations in compliance with all applicable OSHA, MIOSHA (Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration), local, state, and federal safety regulations.

6. Prepares budgets and interprets balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and forecasts to support the preventative and annual maintenance and housekeeping plans and monitor expenditures.

7. Identifies and manages significant business, financial, and operating risks and advises the CEO, Board of Directors, and staff as needed.

8. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs staff and volunteers. Regularly reviews and evaluates performance.

9. Fills in for staff when needed.

10. Develops an annual plan of capital projects, consistent with the YMCA’s strategic plan and community needs, and maintains a five-year facility forecast.

11. Acts as a liaison to the Board of Directors Facilities Committee, prepares and presents agendas, budgets, reports, and meeting minutes as assigned.

12. Establishes priorities systematically. Assists staff in adjusting priorities and/or eliminating tasks based on conditions or needs, such as customer, organizational, departmental, and personal. Generates solutions to work situations to manage competing priorities.

13. Oversee and ensure completion of approved projects through internal and external resources.

RISK MANAGEMENT

Identify potential risks in programs, facilities or equipment and take steps to reduce or eliminate hazards.
Follow all YMCA safety, child‑protection, and emergency‑response policies, procedures, and trainings.
Model safe behaviors, correct unsafe conditions, and promote a culture of awareness and accountability.
Promptly report incidents, suspicious behavior, or safety concerns

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS

Act as a professional role model by consistently demonstrating behavior that reflects the YMCA’s values and inspires others to do the same.
Support YMCA fundraising efforts by building relationships, sharing the Y’s impact, and participating in campaigns and events as assigned.
Serve as an advocate for the YMCA by promoting its mission, programs, and community value in all interactions with members, partners, and the public.
Protect and strengthen the YMCA brand by modeling the core values, delivering high‑quality service, and ensuring communications and behaviors align with the mission.
