Position Summary
The Field Technician is responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of all fall protection systems and equipment through routine inspections, testing, documentation, and reporting. This role involves conducting thorough inspections of harnesses, lanyards, anchor points, lifelines, and related safety systems in accordance with OSHA, ANSI, and company standards. The specialist identifies and reports defects or hazards, recommends corrective actions, and maintains detailed inspection records. They also provide guidance and training on proper use, maintenance, and storage of fall protection equipment.
As the primary field representative for Diversified Fall Protection, this position serves as the technical expert and trusted advisor for customers by providing exceptional service, identifying opportunities to improve safety, and recommending additional products and services that enhance customer operations and regulatory compliance. The Field Technician works independently in the field, communicates effectively across multiple departments, and exercises sound judgment to make critical decisions that support customer needs while maintaining DFP's commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Access site conditions to determine the process required to complete the recertification.
- Compare actual site conditions to engineered drawings for discrepancies and communicate any issues back to the Project Manager
- Direct communication with clients, contractors, and other site personnel
- Quality control and standardization for all phases of recertification
- Proactively monitor, track, and take necessary action to complete recertification at or below estimated cost and report daily progress to the project manager.
- Work in a team effort with Project Managers and Engineering
- Client training on system use upon completion of recertification (when applicable)
- Serve as the primary on-site representative for Diversified Fall Protection by delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining professional relationships with customers, contractors, and facility personnel.
- Identify opportunities for additional inspections, repairs, replacement equipment, engineering support, training, or new fall protection solutions, and communicate these opportunities to the Sales and Project Management teams.
- Educate customers on available DFP products and services that improve safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Partner closely with Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Customer Service, Scheduling, and Operations to ensure seamless project execution and an exceptional customer experience.
- Maintain frequent communication with internal office personnel regarding project status, schedule changes, customer concerns, material needs, and technical issues.
- Exercise independent judgment to evaluate field conditions and make sound technical and safety decisions with minimal supervision.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally while balancing customer expectations, safety requirements, and company standards.
- Complete accurate digital documentation, inspection reports, photographs, and recommendations in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent/Trade School Graduate
- 0-2 years civil construction inspection or construction inspection experience
- Field construction means and methods
- Ability to read engineered drawings
- Ability to travel 100% of the time
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong customer service and relationship management skills.
- Ability to confidently communicate technical information to customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize customer needs and recommend additional products, services, inspections, repairs, or upgrades.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, and decision-making abilities.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments including Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Customer Service, and Operations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills while working in a remote field environment.
- Comfortable using mobile technology, inspection software, Microsoft Office, and digital reporting platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fall protection inspection experience
- Heavy equipment experience (diesel boom lift, boom forklift, etc.)
- Fall protection system installations
- Basic understanding of ANSI and OSHA standards
- Travel savvy
- Experience in technical sales, consultative selling, or identifying opportunities for additional customer services.
- Previous experience in customer-facing field service or industrial service environments.
- Experience presenting technical recommendations directly to customers.
- CRM experience (Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to regularly lift and maneuver up to 75 lbs without assistance and perform strenuous physical labor for 8+ hours per day, including climbing, overhead work, kneeling, squatting, crawling, pulling, and heavy lifting, often at elevation or while suspended from structures.
- Requires frequent and extended climbing of ladders, towers, scaffolding, and buildings, and working suspended in fall protection harnesses, sometimes in awkward or confined positions, and often on sloped, uneven, or unstable surfaces with minimal guardrails.
- Must tolerate extreme environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, direct sunlight, airborne particles, dust, fumes, vibration, and mechanical hazards.
- Requires full range of motion, physical agility, and strong fine/gross motor coordination to navigate tight spaces, transition across structural elements, and operate hand and power tools safely at height.
- Must adhere to strict safety protocols and be able to wear and function in required PPE for extended periods, including but not limited to harnesses, helmets, respirators, gloves, durable long pants and steel-toed boots.
- Must be able to safely attach and operate fall protection systems rated for a total all-in weight capacity of 310lbs
- Must have the ability to travel up to 95%, including to all 50 states and international destinations (valid passport required if eligible), and possess visual and auditory acuity to detect hazards and ensure safety compliance.
- Must be comfortable working at elevations often exceeding 100 feet for extended periods while utilizing approved fall protection systems.
- Must be capable of climbing and descending a 50-foot fixed or portable ladder repeatedly throughout the workday without hesitation or assistance while carrying required tools and equipment.
- Must possess the confidence and physical ability to safely transition between ladders, structural steel, roof surfaces, platforms, and elevated work areas while maintaining 100% tie-off.
- Must be able to make sound safety decisions while working independently in high-angle environments where immediate supervision may not be available.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position. The work schedule for this position varies depending on client location and operational requirements. This position may require hours beyond standard working hours to satisfy job duties and department demand including working weekends, night or holidays.
