Kitchen Manager

At The Transition House, every meal served contributes to something bigger.

Our Kitchen Manager plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient food service operation that supports individuals working toward successful reentry into the community.

This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in running a clean kitchen, managing inventory, maintaining food safety standards, and ensuring every meal is prepared and served with consistency and care.

Schedule

We offer two full-time schedules:

Option 1

3:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Fridays & Saturdays off

Option 2

12:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Sundays & Mondays off

Shift assignment is based on operational needs, though shift preferences may be considered during the hiring process.

What You'll Do

As Kitchen Manager, you'll oversee daily food service operations while ensuring compliance, safety, quality, and efficiency.

You'll be responsible for creating an environment where nutritious meals are prepared safely, inventory is managed responsibly, and kitchen operations run smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain compliance with food safety regulations, sanitation standards, and local health codes
Oversee kitchen cleanliness, organization, and inspection readiness
Monitor inventory levels, food deliveries, kitchen equipment, and supply usage
Ensure proper food storage, labeling, rotation, and portion control
Coordinate safe and efficient meal preparation and service
Conduct routine sanitation and safety inspections
Report maintenance concerns, equipment issues, and safety hazards
Maintain accurate documentation related to food service operations
Support kitchen security and accountability measures
Promote a professional, organized, and team-oriented work environment

Core Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED
Must be at least 18 years of age
Current ServSafe Certification (required)
Ability to obtain Food Safety Manager Certification within 60 days if required
Knowledge of sanitation standards, food safety practices, and kitchen operations
Strong inventory management and organizational skills
Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and secure kitchen environment
Strong documentation and recordkeeping abilities
Ability to identify and address safety, sanitation, and operational concerns
Ability to work effectively in a structured and accountable environment

Preferred Qualifications

Three years of food service leadership or kitchen management experience
Experience working in correctional, residential, institutional, healthcare, or school food service environments
Experience working with justice-involved or at-risk populations
College degree or related coursework
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered

Work Environment

This position operates within a combination of:

Commercial kitchen environments
Residential program settings
Structured facility operations

Expect active movement throughout kitchen and dining areas, routine sanitation oversight, inventory management, meal service coordination, and maintaining safe and orderly operations.
