Full Job Description

Job Summary

The Program Coordinator: Youth Development is responsible for coordinating Operation Better Block's youth development, workforce readiness, greening, and community improvement initiatives. This position combines program coordination, youth mentoring, environmental stewardship (gardening and lot maintenance), grant administration, and operational support to ensure successful delivery of an impactful community-based program. In addition, this position assists with ongoing community organizing and engagement.

The Program Coordinator works directly with youth participants, families, volunteers, community partners, and contractors while overseeing daily program operations, maintaining accurate records, managing budgets, processing grant expenditures, and tracking participant outcomes.

The successful candidate is a positive role model who demonstrates integrity, professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to helping young people develop personally, academically, and professionally.

Responsibilities

. Youth Development & Green Workforce Programming

Coordinate daily youth programming for participants generally around the ages 13–18. Programming is afterschool during the school year and all day during the summer months.
Recruiting youth from local schools and the Homewood neighborhood.
Support career exploration, job readiness, leadership development, and life skills training.
Mentor students and reinforce positive behavior and professional expectations.
Develop relationships with families, schools, and community partners.
Help youth establish individual academic and personal goals.
Ensure youth receive appropriate supervision during all indoor and outdoor activities.
Maintain accurate participant files, attendance records and required documentation for grant and contract compliance.
Track school attendance, grades, report cards, and academic progress.
Monitor participant goals and measure progress toward established outcomes.
Communicate with schools and families regarding participant progress when appropriate.
Prepare participant progress summaries and outcome reports.

2. Community Greening & Property Maintenance

Coordinate urban farming activities, greening initiatives and neighborhood beautification projects.
Coordinate maintenance of vacant lots and community green spaces.
Maintain records for land agreements and lot maintenance schedules.
Coordinate volunteers and youth work crews assigned to outdoor projects.
Ensure safe work practices during outdoor activities.
Assist with planning seasonal beautification efforts.

3. Community Organizing and Engagement

Coordinate logistics for volunteer days and neighborhood improvement activities.
Assist with supporting community organizing efforts and/or cluster groups.
Assist with event scheduling and setup.
Recruit volunteers and community partners.
Coordinate supplies and equipment needed for programming.
Represent Operation Better Block at community meetings and neighborhood events.
Maintain positive relationships with community partners.
Support organization-wide initiatives as assigned.

4. Grant and Contract Administration & Financial Management

Track grant budgets and expenditures.
Monitor spending against approved budgets.
Maintain organized financial documentation.
Assist in developing annual program budgets.
Ensure compliance with grant and contract funding requirements.
Generate monthly and quarterly reports for funders, leadership, and the Board of Directors.
Compile participant and program databases. statistics and outcome measures.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's or Associate’s degree or 2–3 years of practical experience working with youth, workforce development, environmental programming, education, or related programs.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and motivate youth.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience maintaining accurate records and documentation.
Ability to supervise small teams during indoor and outdoor activities.
Strong attention to detail.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to learn participant tracking and grant management systems.

Required Licenses & Clearances

Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License and reliable transportation.
Ability to obtain and maintain:
Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check
FBI Fingerprint Clearance (if applicable)
CPR/First Aid Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).

Physical Requirements

The position requires both office and outdoor work.

The employee must regularly:

Walk uneven terrain.
Stand for extended periods.
Lift up to 40 pounds.
Bend, kneel, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $44,000.00 per year
