Full Job Description

GENERAL ROLE & RESPONSIBILITY

As Director of Quality for a cosmetics/personal care company, you will be accountable to establish, maintain, and improve the plant’s overall Quality Systems while managing the critical functions of Incoming Quality Control, Fill Assembly Specs and Quality Assurance, FG Lab Testing/Release, Document Control, Change Control, Validation, Training, and Vendor/Supplier QA. This role is a partner to all supply chain functions through all phases of manufacturing and production to assure compliance to all appropriate requirements pertaining to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP.) The position will oversee and customer complaints, non conformances, CAPA, audits, Annual Product Review consistent with FDA/ISO regulations, standards and internal procedures.

The DOQ is expected to develop and implement plans for continuous improvement and more effective and efficient execution of the overall activities of the Quality teams. The interaction with Manufacturing and Product Development areas will be optimized, all leading to the most consistent, high quality, products and processes. A focus on first time right and Cost of Quality is critical. The person is required be a visible and respected leader for Quality and the entire organization. They will participate at the company mid-management level to ensure our best practices include Quality as a key element of our strategic thinking as the business grows.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Ø Exceptional quality leader who thrives in a fast-paced personal care contract manufacturing environment with capability to oversee all operational aspects of the business’ Quality function.

Ø Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate your team while providing a unifying vision for the entire organization.

Ø Strong knowledge foundation of FDA regulations regarding the manufacture of cosmetics/OTC (FCR 210, 211, ISO).

Ø Proven ability to develop and implement quality management strategy and plans, including resource, systems, processes to support, contribute to, and integrate within, the organization’s annual business plan and long-term growth and continuous improvement strategy.

Ø Proven problem-solving aptitude and multi-tasking skills where prioritization and use of resources is based on business value.

Ø Strong collaboration and communication skills and can interface effectively with all levels of an organization. You have a proven record of accomplishment of critical thinking, flexibility, and innovation.

Ø Thorough knowledge and practical application of cGMP and FDA Compliance rules, regulations and policies

Ø Thorough knowledge of all Good Documentation processes related to QC/QA activities for OTC products

Ø Excellent leadership and hands on execution skills and abilities, including regular floor presence.

Ø Strong motivational skills and effective team building capabilities (inspectors, leads, supervisors, managers)

Ø Ability to effectively prioritize/manage personal time and resources based on business value.

Ø Ability to efficiently and professionally communicate with internal and external customers, vendors, and regulatory bodies.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Ø Manages and Improves quality systems that ensure optimum process and product performance.

Ø Leads investigating and implementing corrective/preventative action for customer complaints, nonconforming products, and nonconforming systems.

Ø Develops and manages procedures and work instructions to ensure conformance to specifications, quality systems, safety, and good manufacturing practices.

Ø Maintains a close relationship with Production, Warehouse, Maintenance and R&D to facilitate quality products, and systems designed to achieve quality goals.

Ø Manages the design and implementation of quality-related training programs for QA and Operations personnel in performing required tests, decision-making skills, statistical process control, and other areas as needed. Partners with HR, Operations and R&D to design effective training curriculums to meet best practices manufacturing processes.

Ø Recommends, reviews changes, oversees implementation, and documents any approved design changes that apply to commercial products. Works directly with customers to facilitate specifications, product design, quality systems, information exchange, non-conforming product, variances and investigation.

Ø Sets direction for audits of in-process & finished products, facility housekeeping, sanitation, pest control,

Ø Acts as Project Coordinator and/or Project Leader as assigned for special projects.

Ø Represents the Company in discussions with customers, suppliers, auditors, and regulatory agencies of the county, state, and federal government (USDA, FDA, etc.).

Ø Establishes, prepares and manages necessary department budgets, operating and periodic reports.

Ø Initiates and handles personnel actions such as hires, reviews, promotions, discipline and terminations.

Ø Develops and implements methods, trend analysis metrics, reports and procedures, in order to inform management of status or work activities.

Ø Manage departmental performance against agreed metrics and key performance indicators

Ø Actively contribute to plant policy and strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Ø Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, i.e., biology, chemistry, etc. required. Advance degree preferred.

Ø 10-15 years of relevant experience in Quality is required, at least 3-5 years of that must be in a leadership capacity with managing multiple direct reports

Ø Experience in all areas within Quality Management Systems related to bulk, filling, packaging, testing and release of personal care products. Cosmetic contract manufacturing experience preferred.

Ø Direct experience with regulatory audits, including direct interface with inspectors.

Ø Knowledge and expertise in principles and current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) in a development through commercial application.

Ø Strong knowledge foundation of FDA regulations regarding the manufacture of cosmetics/OTC (210, 211, CFR), including regulatory inspection or support experience is preferred.

Ø Capable to manage multiple priorities and maintain adherence to timelines.

Ø Must be able to build effective working relationships with key business partners, customers, suppliers and peers in order to drive a culture of continuous improvement regarding cost of quality.

Ø Personal Care manufacturing process related experience required with pharma experience considered.
