The Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce exists to support our business community. We do this by serving our member businesses, improving livability in and around Joplin, promoting community leadership, and attracting new talent and industry to our area. We act as the collective voice for hundreds of individual businesses who we champion, assist, and advocate for.
Job Summary:
The program and development manager plays an important role in helping businesses and organizations unlock the full potential of their Chamber membership. This position is responsible for cultivating strong member relationships, developing and managing investments, and program coordination. The individual in this position is collaborative, organized, and passionate about connecting members to opportunities for long-term success.
Key Responsibilities:
Member Engagement & Relationship Building
- Serve as a contact for Chamber members, providing ongoing support and guidance to maximize membership value.
- Conduct daily outreach to current and potential members to encourage participation and engagement.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of member interactions, sponsorships, and activities.
- Identify and respond to members needs to increase satisfaction.
- Serve as a liaison for leads groups and promote participation in networking opportunities.
Sponsorship Development & Management
- Cultivate and manage corporate partnerships, sponsorships, membership investment opportunities, capital campaigns, and strategic initiatives that support the Chamber's mission and financial sustainability.
- Identify sponsorship opportunities aligned with Chamber programs and events.
- Develop investment proposals aligned with member goals and Chamber initiatives.
- Secure sponsor commitments and track deliverables to ensure a positive return on investment.
- Monitor sponsorship payments and follow up on outstanding invoices.
- Log activities from closed investment sales and ensure accurate records for reporting.
- Evaluate and update annual sponsorship packages based on member feedback and performance.
- Collaborate with the team to develop and finalize the annual Partner Playbook.
Program Coordination & Event Planning
- Lead the planning and delivery of several key Chamber programs.
- Serve as the Young Professional Network coordinator.
- Partner with the team to promote events and investments.
- Assist in the creation of member-focused resources such as the Partner Playbook and investment toolkits.
Administrative & Reporting Duties
- Manage email communication, calls, meetings, and administrative tasks to maintain efficiency.
- Prepare and share progress reports related to membership, sponsorships, and event planning.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings, offering updates and insights on member success initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support Chamber goals and initiatives.
- Work with leadership to track KPIs.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the organization's mission and growth.

- Strategic Thinking: Able to align program initiatives and sponsorship development with long-term Chamber goals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable mode of transportation for moderate local travel to various prospective member, current member, and business-related locations (mileage reimbursement provided).
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, the business community and prospective members.
- Strong computer and word-processing skills, including CRM software, MS Word, and MS Excel.
- Exercise good judgment in setting priorities and organization of workload.
- Ability to multi-task effectively with attention to detail and quality.
- Demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information and situations.
