Full Job Description

Director of Development

Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Location: Edna W. Runner Education Center (West Jupiter Community Group, Inc.) – Jupiter, Florida (On-Site)

Position Summary

The Director of Development serves as a key member of the leadership team and is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing a comprehensive fundraising and philanthropic development program that advances the mission of the Edna W. Runner Education Center.

This position leads all aspects of fundraising, including major gifts, annual giving, foundation and corporate partnerships, grant writing and management, donor stewardship, special events, and capital campaigns. The Director of Development works closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, and community partners to cultivate meaningful relationships that generate sustainable financial support and expand the organization's impact.

The mission of the Edna W. Runner Education Center is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for at-risk students and their families so they may pursue academic and personal excellence.

Our vision is to empower the children of West Jupiter to overcome the circumstances of poverty, achieve academic success, and lead meaningful, productive lives. Through educational programming, family support services, and community partnerships, we are committed to creating lasting opportunities for children, seniors, and families throughout our community.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesStrategic Fund Development

Develop and implement a comprehensive annual development plan to achieve organizational fundraising goals.
Establish measurable fundraising objectives and monitor progress toward annual revenue targets.
Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to identify and pursue strategic funding opportunities.
Prepare regular fundraising reports, forecasts, and performance metrics for leadership and the Board.
Develop strategies to diversify revenue through individual giving, corporate partnerships, foundations, government grants, planned giving, and special campaigns.

Grant Development and Management

Research, identify, and pursue grant opportunities from private foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
Write, prepare, and submit compelling grant proposals and funding applications.
Manage all post-award grant requirements, including reporting, compliance, and documentation.
Maintain a comprehensive grants calendar and funding pipeline.
Collaborate with program and finance staff to gather program outcomes, budgets, and supporting documentation.
Monitor grant expenditures to ensure compliance with funding requirements.

Donor Relations and Stewardship

Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and community stakeholders.
Develop and implement donor recognition and stewardship strategies that encourage long-term engagement and increased giving.
Oversee donor database management and ensure accurate donor records and gift tracking.
Prepare donor communications, acknowledgments, impact reports, and stewardship materials.
Identify and cultivate major gift prospects and planned giving opportunities.

Fundraising Events and Campaigns

Plan, organize, and oversee fundraising events and donor stewardship activities.
Develop event budgets, timelines, sponsorship opportunities, and marketing strategies.
Recruit and coordinate volunteers, committees, sponsors, and event partners.
Evaluate event outcomes, donor participation, and return on investment to improve future fundraising efforts.
Lead annual giving campaigns, capital campaigns, and special fundraising initiatives.

Leadership and Collaboration

Serve as a member of the organization's leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and organizational growth.
Work with marketing and events consultants to develop fundraising campaigns, donor communications, annual reports, and promotional materials.
Support and engage the Board of Directors in fundraising activities and donor cultivation.
Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, businesses, foundations, and civic organizations.
Represent the organization professionally within the philanthropic and nonprofit communities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

QualificationsRequired

Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Communications, Public Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible nonprofit fundraising or development experience.
Demonstrated success in securing grants, major gifts, and corporate sponsorships.
Strong grant writing, donor cultivation, and relationship management skills.
Experience managing donor databases (CRM systems) and fundraising software.
Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
Strong organizational, analytical, and project management abilities.
Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners.

Preferred

Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential.
Experience in education-focused or youth-serving nonprofit organizations.
Knowledge of the Palm Beach County philanthropic community.
Experience leading capital campaigns and comprehensive fundraising initiatives.
