Full-time position available with the Fire Department, Finance Division
Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
Work Location: 6750 Eastwood Trafficway
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

The Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) is one of the largest and busiest fire departments in the Midwest, providing comprehensive all-hazards emergency response services to more than 510,000 residents across 319 square miles. Operating from 35 firehouses, including a specialized Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) station at Kansas City International Airport, KCFD responds to approximately 140,000 incidents annually, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescue, and disaster response.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

Creates and submits claims to insurance companies and patients.
Verifies patient insurance coverage and eligibility.
Monitors claim status, investigate denials, and perform timely appeals.
Posts payments, reconcile accounts, and generate patient statements.
Communicates with patients, providers, and insurance representatives regarding billing issues and pre-authorizations
Utilizes ability to interpret ambulance patient care reports (ePCR), and understanding of healthcare privacy regulations, including HIPAA.

Qualifications

REQUIRES:

High school graduation or GED
4 years of public or private sector experience in Medical and Medicaid Medical Billing
OR 4 years of customer service experience.
May be required to obtain a Coding Specialist Certificate or an Ambulance Coder Certification

Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
