Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for supporting immunohematology operations through donor testing and antigen negative inventory management. Under the direction and supervision of qualified laboratory personnel, this position performs designated donor immunohematology testing, including ABO/Rh confirmation, direct antiglobulin testing (DAT), antigen typing, antibody screening and identification, antibody titration, and sickle cell screening.

The position may also perform limited patient testing as authorized by the Laboratory Director and in accordance with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Primary Duties, Responsibilities or Activities Required by Job (including but not limited to)

May perform duties assigned to Immunohematology Support Specialist I and II roles as needed to support laboratory operations.
Performs donor immunohematology testing, including ABO/Rh confirmation, direct antiglobulin testing (DAT), antigen typing, antibody screening and identification, antibody titers, sickle cell screening, and other donor testing as assigned.
Assists with antigen-negative inventory management, including identifying, testing, labeling, transferring, and releasing units to fulfill customer orders under established procedures.
Performs quality control, routine maintenance, cleaning, and documentation for laboratory equipment, reagents, and testing processes.
Maintains laboratory work areas, supplies, reagents, and inventory in an organized and compliant manner.
Selects, verifies, and maintains records of antibody-positive donors and antigen-negative donor inventories.
Locates, samples, and prepares donor products for submission to internal departments, customers, or external facilities for evaluation.
Maintains accurate, complete, and up-to-date laboratory records, including records related to frozen cell inventories, outside storage facilities, quality control, testing, and inventory activities.
Assists with preparation of reports, maintenance of laboratory documentation, revision of standard operating procedures, and other quality system activities.
Assists with administrative and operational functions of the laboratory, including supply ordering, inventory tracking, record management, and special projects.
Ensures compliance with NYBCe policies, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and laboratory procedures.
May perform limited patient testing under the supervision of qualified laboratory personnel and in accordance with CLIA requirements and laboratory policies.
Performs other duties as assigned to support the goals and operations of the laboratory.

CBCKC/IBR/BBD/RIBC Specific Duties

Prepares, maintains, and performs quality control of in-house reagents, enzyme-treated red cells, and red cell panels, including papain-treated cells.
Coordinates the collection, retrieval, aliquoting, freezing, storage, recovery, and inventory management of reagent donor, source donor and panel cell products.

Other Secondary Functions:

Performs only those testing activities authorized by the Laboratory Director and commensurate with the individual's education, training, experience, demonstrated competency, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Performs and documents quality control, proficiency testing, and other quality assurance activities associated with testing responsibilities assigned to the position.
Recognizes and reports equipment malfunctions, testing discrepancies, unusual results, deviations from standard operating procedures, and quality concerns to supervisory staff.
Follows established laboratory policies and procedures when test systems are outside established performance specifications and documents corrective actions as directed.
Assists with the identification, testing, procurement, and inventory management of antigen-negative and rare donor units as assigned.
Assists with review of testing results and draft reports under supervision, as applicable.
Provides technical support regarding donor testing, antigen-negative inventory, and immunohematology services to internal and external customers, as assigned.
Participates in reagent donor program activities including donor communication, scheduling, collection coordination, product processing, and shipment, where applicable.
Makes recommendations for improvements to laboratory operations, workflow efficiency, quality systems, and customer service.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Minimum Education & Experience:

Education:

Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT); or
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science; or
Bachelor’s Degree in a Physical, Chemical, or Biological Science

Experience:

2 years of relevant technical and service-related industry experience that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge:

Working knowledge of computerized systems.
Knowledge of office productivity software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
