Full Job Description

Legal Assistant/Paralegal

Evans & Mullinix, P.A., established in 1974, is a fast-paced law firm operating in Shawnee, Kansas and has been well-respected since its founding 50 years ago. We are seeking a motivated, full-time legal assistant or paralegal, preferably with law firm experience, to support our bankruptcy, estate planning, probate, real estate, and civil litigation practice areas. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. We offer competitive salary and benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and holiday time off. Salary details are negotiable based on skill level and experience in the legal field. Ideal candidates are motivated self-starters with high attention to detail and commitment to work product quality, accuracy, and confidentiality. This position is primarily responsible for supporting one shareholder-level attorney with the possibility of work from other attorneys as time allows.

Required/Essential Skills & Qualifications include, but not limited to:

· Attention and commitment to detail, quality, and accuracy of work.

· Value confidentiality.

· Organized and motivated self-starter.

· Ability to prioritize assigned tasks.

· Ability to communicate professionally with staff, clients, courthouse personnel, attorneys, etc.

· Excellent written communication skills.

· Able to work independently.

· 2–3 years of law firm experience preferred.

· Bachelor’s degree or related associate degree (Paralegal studies) preferred.

· Paralegal Certification preferred.

· Proficient user in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).

· Knowledge of, or eagerness to learn, the federal and state electronic filing requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

· Assist attorney in case management - scheduling and tracking client meetings, court appearances, hearings, and docket calls, drafting pleadings, sending correspondence, etc.

· Drafting and e-filing pleadings with various court systems and following up with court personnel as needed.

· Assist attorney with day-to-day tasks including scheduling, establishing and maintaining client files.
