Full Job Description

To assist with our high-precision machining tasks for the defense and aerospace sectors, Owens Industries is looking for a skilled CNC Programmer. This role is responsible for programming complex 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling machines for high-mix, low-volume production of tight-tolerance components manufactured from advanced aerospace materials.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience machining exotic materials such as Inconel, Titanium, Monel, stainless steels, and other difficult-to-machine alloys while maintaining tolerances down to ±0.0001". This individual must thrive in a fast-paced environment with quick job changeovers and constantly evolving production priorities.

Experience with Autodesk PowerMill, FeatureCAM, and SolidWorks is highly preferred.

Duties

Develop, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for complex 3-axis and 5-axis milling operations.
Program high-precision aerospace and defense components requiring extremely tight tolerances and superior surface finishes.
Create efficient toolpaths and machining strategies for exotic materials including Inconel, Titanium, Monel, stainless steels, and other high-performance alloys.
Support setup personnel and machinists during prove-outs and first-run operations.
Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and process issues to improve efficiency and repeatability.

Process Development & Optimization

Develop machining processes focused on cycle time reduction, tool life improvement, and process stability.
Select tooling, workholding, cutting parameters, and machining strategies appropriate for complex aerospace applications.
Continuously improve existing programs and manufacturing methods to increase throughput and quality.
Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to ensure manufacturability and inspection readiness.

Shop Floor & Production Support

Work closely with machinists, operations, and engineering teams in a fast-paced, high-mix manufacturing environment.
Support rapid job changeovers and shifting production priorities while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
Assist with fixture concepts, setup documentation, and manufacturing process improvements.
Provide technical support related to machining strategy, tooling, and program optimization.

Software & Technical Requirements

Utilize CAD/CAM software to generate and maintain CNC programs and manufacturing documentation.
Work from SolidWorks models, customer drawings, and engineering documentation.
Preferred experience with Autodesk PowerMill, Autodesk FeatureCAM, and SolidWorks.
Maintain organized program structures, setup sheets, and revision control practices.

Qualifications Required

5+ years of CNC programming experience in an aerospace or high-precision manufacturing environment.
Strong experience programming 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling machines.
Experience machining exotic aerospace materials including Inconel, Titanium, and Monel.
Proven ability to hold extremely tight tolerances down to ±0.0001".
Strong understanding of tooling, cutting parameters, workholding, and machining dynamics.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.

Preferred

Experience with Autodesk PowerMill and/or FeatureCAM.
Experience using SolidWorks CAD software.
Familiarity with aerospace and defense manufacturing requirements.
Understanding of inspection processes and quality standards related to aerospace machining.
