Full Job Description

The Volunteer Coordinator leads the day-to-day administration of the Opportunity Shop's volunteer program, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, training coordination, communication, engagement, and recognition. Working closely with the Opportunity Shop Manager and staff, the Volunteer Coordinator helps ensure adequate volunteer coverage, maintains accurate records, addresses volunteer needs and concerns, and creates an organized, welcoming, and mission-aligned experience for individual and group volunteers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Serve as the primary point of contact for Opportunity Shop volunteers and oversee the day-to-day administration of the volunteer program.
Work with the Opportunity Shop Manager to assess volunteer needs and maintain clear volunteer roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
Recruit individual and group volunteers through community partnerships, online platforms, referrals, outreach events, and other appropriate channels.
Coordinate volunteer orientation and onboarding so volunteers understand their roles, store policies, safety practices, and customer service expectations.
Match volunteers with appropriate assignments based on their skills, interests, availability, and the operational needs of the Opportunity Shop.
Create and maintain volunteer schedules that provide appropriate coverage during Opportunity Shop operating hours.
Communicate regularly with volunteers and staff to confirm availability, address schedule changes, and fill open shifts.
Coordinate the scope, scheduling, and logistics of group volunteer projects in collaboration with Opportunity Shop staff.
Maintain complete and accurate volunteer records, including contact information, availability, assignments, attendance, and onboarding or training status.
Provide ongoing guidance, training reinforcement, and feedback to volunteers while modeling high-quality service and professionalism.
Create an open and respectful environment where volunteers can raise questions or concerns, and work with the Opportunity Shop Manager to address performance or operational issues.
Develop clear, timely communications that keep volunteers informed about schedules, policies, procedures, events, and service opportunities.
Support volunteer appreciation, recognition, engagement, and retention efforts.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with the Opportunity Shop Manager and staff to integrate volunteer support into daily store operations.
Assist customers and provide sales-floor or phone coverage when needed.
Support community outreach, special events, fundraising activities, and off-site volunteer opportunities as assigned.
Participate in Christ Child Society events outside regular work hours on an as-needed basis.
Maintain the confidentiality of volunteer, donor, customer, staff, and organizational information. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Opportunity Shop Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Commitment to the mission of the Christ Child Society. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with volunteers, customers, staff, and community partners.
Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and team-support skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to coordinate schedules and manage multiple priorities .
Sound judgment and discretion when responding to volunteer concerns, performance issues, and confidential information.
Ability to train, guide, and provide clear direction and expectations to volunteers.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, databases, and volunteer-management or scheduling systems; ability to learn retail and organizational software.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven retail environment.
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in volunteer management, nonprofit administration, community engagement, human resources, or a related field is preferred.
Prior experience coordinating volunteers, staff schedules, community programs, or retail operations is preferred.
Ability to work a flexible schedule aligned with Opportunity Shop needs, including weekends, occasional evenings, and off-site events.

Physical Requirements: The following requirements may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation:

Stand and walk for extended periods and move throughout retail and storage areas. Reach overhead; bend, squat, and kneel; and climb stairs as needed for customer service, merchandising, and inventory support.
Lift, carry, and move boxes, merchandise, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, and use carts or hand trucks when appropriate.
Safely use step stools or ladders when required.
Perform light store-upkeep tasks, including sweeping, vacuuming, emptying trash, and cleaning.

Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
