Full Job Description

Job Summary

American Rockwool is hiring a General Machinist in Belton, TX to make, repair, and modify parts for custom-built production machinery. This position is a good fit for someone with practical machine shop experience who can work from prints, sketches, measurements, or existing parts and support a busy manufacturing maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities

- Set up and operate machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, saws, grinders, and related shop equipment.
- Machine, fit, assemble, repair, and modify metal parts, mechanisms, tools, and machine components.
- Determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and machine requirements from blueprints, sketches, damaged parts, sample parts, or verbal descriptions.
- Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other shop instruments to verify accuracy.
- Support production and maintenance teams with equipment repairs, adjustments, fabrication, and plant projects.
- Keep tools, machines, and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all company safety policies, plant rules, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures.

Qualifications

- Previous experience as a general machinist, manual machinist, maintenance machinist, toolroom machinist, or similar shop role.
- Ability to set up and operate manual machine shop equipment safely and accurately.
- Ability to read measurements and work from prints, sketches, instructions, or sample parts.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
- Dependable attendance and willingness to work with production and maintenance teams.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and use required PPE.

Preferred Experience

- Machine shop training in mechanics, shop math, metal properties, layout, or machining procedures.
- Welding, cutting, or light fabrication experience.
- Experience repairing industrial production equipment or custom machinery.
- Experience with bearings, shafts, rollers, guards, brackets, fixtures, and repair parts.
