SENIOR DRAFTSMAN
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced, detail-oriented, organized, and responsible Senior Draftsman to join our team. The Senior Draftsman will be responsible for preparing, developing, reviewing, coordinating, and performing quality control of technical drawings and construction documents in support of engineering and architectural projects.
This position requires a strong understanding of drafting standards, construction documentation, design coordination, quality control procedures, and project requirements. The selected candidate must be capable of working with limited supervision, coordinating with engineers, architects, project managers, the internal office team, vendors, and other design disciplines to ensure that drawings are accurate, complete, coordinated, and properly organized for client review, permitting, bidding, procurement, and construction.
The Senior Draftsman will also be expected to provide technical guidance, review the work of other draftsmen, support drawing production standards, and assist in supervising and coordinating the drafting team.
Ø Key Responsibilities:
The employee will perform at least, and not limited to, the following duties:
- Prepare and develop detailed technical drawings, layouts, plans, sections, elevations, schedules, and construction details for engineering and/or architectural projects.
- Lead the development and organization of drawing packages for client review, permitting, bidding, procurement, and construction use.
- Coordinate drawing production among engineers, architects, project managers, junior draftsmen, administrative staff, vendors, and other design disciplines.
- Perform quality control reviews of drawings prepared by the drafting team to verify accuracy, completeness, consistency, coordination, and compliance with project requirements.
- Review drawings for compliance with company standards, applicable codes, project specifications, client requirements, and permitting agency comments.
- Identify drafting inconsistencies, missing information, coordination issues, and potential design conflicts before drawings are issued.
- Revise and update drawings based on engineering input, design changes, field conditions, permitting comments, vendor information, and coordination reviews.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to obtain technical information, product data, equipment dimensions, and other documentation required for the development of drawings and design packages.
- Interpret engineering sketches, architectural plans, specifications, survey information, design concepts, field notes, and vendor documentation.
- Support the preparation of existing condition plans, as-built drawings, design documents, and construction documents.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date drawing files, CAD models, reference documents, vendor information, and project documentation.
- Incorporate comments from internal reviews, clients, consultants, vendors, and permitting agencies in a timely manner.
- Assist in supervising, mentoring, and providing technical guidance to junior draftsmen and other technical staff.
- Help establish, maintain, and enforce drafting standards, drawing templates, file organization, layer standards, naming conventions, and quality control procedures.
- Support document control procedures, drawing revisions, quality control logs, and version management.
- Participate in coordination meetings, site visits, vendor coordination discussions, and project reviews as required.
- Communicate project priorities, deadlines, and drafting assignments clearly to the drafting team.
Ø Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, or Technical course in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
- More than eight (8) years of experience preparing technical drawings and construction documents.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
- Experience with Civil 3D, Revit, or other design/drafting software is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of drafting standards, construction documentation, drawing organization, design coordination, and quality control procedures.
- Proven ability to review drawings for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and constructability.
- Experience coordinating with internal teams, engineers, architects, consultants, vendors, and suppliers.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or providing technical guidance to other draftsmen or technical staff is preferred.
- Ability to organize drawing packages, manage drafting priorities, and support multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong leadership, coordination, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, architectural plans, specifications, sketches, design concepts, and vendor information.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining a collaborative and team-oriented approach.
- Ability to take direction from supervisors while also providing technical leadership to the drafting team.
- Transportation required with valid driver’s license.
- Willing to travel within the island, most of the time in the metro area.
