JOB DESCRIPTION Laboratory Technician
Location: Southest Houston, TX area
Position Summary:
Our client is looking for a Laboratory Technician to perform routine analytical testing, accurately documents and reports results, and helps ensure laboratory equipment and work areas are properly maintained. This position plays an important role in supporting product quality, regulatory and environmental compliance, and efficient laboratory operations while assisting with product development, technical projects, and customer-related needs.
Working under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager, the Laboratory Technician follows established testing methods, procedures, and safety requirements. The role works closely with plant operations, sales, management, and other departments to provide laboratory support and contribute to cross-functional initiatives as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Perform routine laboratory testing using established methods and analytical equipment, including HPLC, GC, viscometers, flash point, and other applicable instrumentation.
- Accurately document, analyze, and report test results while ensuring products meet customer specifications and quality requirements.
- Maintain complete laboratory records, including test data, certificates of analysis, calibration records, and validation documentation.
- Ensure testing activities and laboratory documentation comply with established procedures, regulatory requirements, and applicable permits.
- Maintain and enter environmental compliance data, including information related to boiler and cooling tower chemistry.
- Evaluate raw materials, assist with incoming material inspections, and provide recommendations for process adjustments when appropriate.
- Provide technical laboratory support to operations, sales, product development, and other internal teams.
- Assist with sample preparation, stability studies, troubleshooting, investigations, and process improvement activities.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment to support reliable testing operations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment in accordance with 5S practices and established safety procedures.
- Assist with the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new laboratory equipment and testing capabilities.
- Review analytical and statistical data to identify trends, abnormalities, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support the development and improvement of testing procedures, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Communicate laboratory results and technical findings effectively to internal and external stakeholders and prepare summaries or presentations for management as needed.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), SAP, or similar systems preferred.
- Support overall laboratory operations by managing inventory and supplies, participating in laboratory meetings, collaborating across departments, and providing scheduling coverage, including nights, weekends, or holidays when required.
Qualifications:
- BS degree in a scientific or related field required
- 1+ years of experience in an industrial laboratory or similar environment.
- Proficiency in laboratory mathematics and calculations, including dilutions, concentrations, and unit conversions.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and accountable with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Frequent use of hands for handling laboratory tools and equipment
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to work in laboratory environments with petroleum or chemical odors within OSHA permissible exposure limits
- Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required
- Laboratory setting with potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals
Moderate noise environment
- Compliance with all laboratory safety and environmental policies is required
Type of Assignment:
Temp-Hire
Shift Schedule:
Monday Friday, standard daytime hours. Early or regular day-shift schedule that rotates.
Mandatory weekend overtime is required approximately every third weekend.
Compensation:
$21-23/hr during temp to hire period
