Assistant Controller

Are you an experienced accounting professional who enjoys improving processes, leading teams, and ensuring financial accuracy? Join Home of Guiding Hands, a respected nonprofit serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout San Diego County.

As our Assistant Controller, you'll partner closely with the Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting operations, lead month-end close activities, support audits, supervise accounting staff, and help drive continuous improvement across our Finance Department. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working alongside a collaborative leadership team.

What You'll Do

Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
Prepare and review financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and account analyses
Support audits, budgeting, financial reporting, and cash management
Supervise and mentor accounting staff
Improve accounting processes and strengthen internal controls
Partner with leadership to provide financial insights and recommendations
Serve as the Controller's operational backup when needed

We're Looking For Someone Who Has

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience
Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and audits
Previous leadership or supervisory experience is preferred
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, or government-funded accounting is a plus
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Work Location

This is a fully onsite position in El Cajon, CA. Remote and hybrid work are not available.
