Under the general direction of the Information Technology Administrator, the Information Technology Support Technician performs a broad range of tasks related to the assigned program area, including support of information technology (IT) projects.
The incumbent must be able to determine work priorities; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; conduct technical surveys of buildings and premises to ensure compliance with applicable fire laws, administrative rules, and standards; collect, review, and verify data related to these surveys; work independently; and solve problems and make sound decisions. Additional job-related duties may be assigned as required.
The incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative in performing assigned duties, in accordance with District policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Job performance is evaluated based on the achievement of established objectives, the effectiveness of written and oral communication, and through periodic reviews and conferences.
The Information Technology Support Technician acts in a confidential capacity to assist / aid all Executive Chief Officers and other managerial employees of the District; therefore, the position is within the definition of “Confidential Employee” under FS 447.203(5) Florida Statutes.
Duties and Tasks: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and task satisfactorily. - Provide recommendations, e.g. offer, and respond.

- Maintains a working knowledge with IT operating systems, particularly Windows, Exchange, and Citrix, etc.
- Maintains costs records for materials used and submits reports as required.
- Ensure custodial accountability, e.g. records, inventory.
- Maintains proper stock levels / receiving; inspecting; storing; issuing supplies and reorder points.
- Maintain individual development with organizational goals and objectives.
- Assist with Risk Management Program.
District Finances:
- Assists with monitoring revenues / expenditures of division.
- Assists with alternative funding sources, e.g., grants.
- Assists with audit compliance, e.g., inventory control, statute reporting requirements of division.
- Assists with supplemental funding, e.g., emergency, capital items, and grants.
Represent District with External Entities:
- Promotes positive public relations.
- Assists with complaints, concerns.
- Interacts with assisting agencies, e.g., Fire, EMS, Dispatch, Law Enforcement, etc.
- Participates in developing public safety initiatives, e.g., county, regional, state, community.
- Attends meetings, e.g., industry, non-industry.

Qualifications and Requirements:
The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required for this position. The qualifications and requirements for the position of Information Technology Support Technician are specified by the Fire Chief and are subject to refinement from time to time by the Board, and subject to such alternative qualifications as the Fire Chief may find appropriate and acceptable.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum five years’ experience analyzing and repairing computers, troubleshooting operating systems, applications and networks in a diverse, networked environment.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and bulletins.
- Experience with industry-standard computer applications.
- Demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups.
- Satisfactory completion of an appropriate proficiency assessment.
- Certificate of Completion in Computer Electronic Technology from an accredited vocational or technical school requiring two or more years full time for completion.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Chief may find appropriate and acceptable.
Language Skills:
This individual must be able to communicate verbally and in writing. Proficient in technical report writing and personal computer skills. Time management skills are essential so that all reviews and report functions are completed in a timely manner. Must have good listening skills and be able to determine fact from opinion. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Physical Requirements:
The individual in this position must be sufficiently fit to safely perform the occasional emergency job duties and special risks that are associated with the position. Specific requirements include the physical/mental ability to work in a stressful situation.
Work Environment:
The individual regularly works in the field / office environment except when he / she is performing emergency response duties and responsibilities. During these times, when performing other duties and responsibilities, he / she will NOTbe exposed to hazardous environmental conditions such as heat, smoke, and toxic gases.
