Full Job Description

Poppins Payroll is hiring a Payroll Tax Filing Specialist to help clients resolve complex household employment tax matters, including prior-year wage reporting. You will audit tax filings, support tax account setup, and help ensure accurate and timely tax submissions. We're looking for someone with strong tax experience who enjoys solving complex problems and delivering exceptional customer support while working alongside a dedicated and collaborative team.

Here's what you'll do day-to-day:

Tracking your day-to-day work on spreadsheets.· Auditing complex payroll tax files to ensure readiness before submission.
Viewing and translating raw data into actionable insights.
Answer client inquiries via email and live phone.
Explain payroll, payroll taxes, our services, and our site to clients and prospective clients.
Complete and submit online applications and reports to obtain client FEINs, and set up state tax accounts.
Meet daily (virtually or in-person) with the team to discuss client services and company updates and improvements.
Communicate with state and federal agencies about client accounts.

Minimum Qualifications:

2 + years of experience in tax, payroll tax, or a related compliance-focused role.
Strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, data analysis, and reconciliation techniques.
Proven track record of process improvement in a complex, high-volume operational environment.
Experience working across multiple systems, including Slack, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, HubSpot, or similar CRM platforms.
Strong analytical, project management, research, and communication skills.
Ability to independently investigate and resolve complex tax issues with limited oversight.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience with household employment tax matters and multi-state payroll tax compliance.
Working knowledge of federal and state employment tax laws and regulations.
Experience preparing and reviewing Forms W-2, W-3, Schedule H, 1040-ES payments, amended filings, and related tax documents.
Experience responding to IRS and state tax notices.

What you get:

This job pays $60,000 per year. We cover 75% of our employees' health and dental premiums. You can also participate in our 401K plan, where we match 50% of your contributions up to a maximum of 5% of your salary. You get all the regular holidays off, sick leave, and 3 weeks PTO. You will be able to split time between working from home and working from the office. We have a cool office in downtown Boulder with parking and easy access to Pearl Street. We hook you up with a laptop and monitor; so, it’s easy to move from office to home office. Whether or not you’re in the office, we do a daily team Zoom (M-F) at 9 am.
