Full Job Description

Housing Case Manager (Landlord Liaison)

Harbor Hope Center | Gig Harbor (Wauna), WA

$24.00 per hour

Four 10 hour shifts. Wednesday through Saturday, 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off. Every week. Not rotating, not on call, not a different set of days each month. Real days off.

This position is new, so the scope will keep taking shape as the program develops and you will have a hand in shaping it. If the schedule or the scope ever needs to change, we will talk with you about it first. We would rather tell you that up front than have you find out later.

About us

Harbor Hope Center runs emergency shelter and transitional housing for young adults ages 18 to 24 in Pierce County. Two shelter houses in Gig Harbor, two properties in Tacoma. Small team. Everybody knows every client by name.

What this job actually is

Most of our young people can get to the point where they are ready to move. Documents in hand, income started, case plan working. Then they hit the same wall every time. No rental history. No credit. No cosigner. Sometimes a record.

Your job is to get past that wall.

Half of this role is client-facing: housing search, applications, move-in readiness, and staying with someone through the first months in a unit. The other half, and the half we need most right now, is building real working relationships with landlords and property managers across Pierce County so that when we call, somebody picks up.

We are not looking for someone who submits applications into a portal and waits. We are looking for someone who will go meet property owners, learn what they actually worry about, and give them a reason to say yes to a twenty year old with no rental history.

A week in this role

Pick up handoffs from our outreach and document readiness case manager within two business days
Move at least one person from document complete to move-in ready
Make at least one new landlord or property manager contact
Keep every active housing search moving, with nothing sitting idle past two weeks
Bring current search status and bed status to team check-ins
Keep records current in our data management system and in HMIS, same day

Records matter here

We want a meticulous record keeper. This is not a preference, it is most of what protects the work.

Every landlord contact, every application submitted, every showing, every follow up gets written down the day it happens. Our funders audit these files. A young person's housing history lives or dies on whether somebody wrote it down correctly and on time. If documentation is the part of the job you tolerate rather than the part you are good at, this is not the right seat.

People who are comfortable picking up the phone and cold calling a property manager
People who write it down the same day, every day
People who can hold a firm line with a landlord and stay warm with a client in the same afternoon
People who are fine getting told no and going back anyway

Who this is not for

Anyone who needs a big team and a lot of structure. This is a small shop and you will be building the lane, not inheriting it.
Anyone who wants to do only counseling. This job is logistics, driving, phone calls, and documentation as much as it is relationship work.

Requirements

Two years in housing, homeless services, or closely related work. Direct landlord or property manager contact strongly preferred.
Demonstrated documentation discipline. Be ready to talk about how you keep your notes current under a full caseload.
Driving is an essential function of this position. You will visit properties, drive clients to viewings and appointments, and travel between sites. A valid driver's license and insurable driving record are required for that reason.
Ability to pass a background check
CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire

This position is located on the Key Peninsula, Purdy, Wauna area.
