Job Description and Duties

As a Middle Market Underwriter on our Regional Operations team, you will build upon your underwriting experience, foster valuable relationships with our broker community and manage a key book of business. We are seeking a proficient, solution-oriented, relationship-driven underwriting professional with excellent interpersonal skills to join our team in the Los Angeles area.

In this Role You Will:

Handle Risk Evaluation & Quoting

Evaluate risk and provide timely quotes for new and renewal business.

Manage a Key Portfolio

Oversee an assigned portfolio and monitor performance
Identify potential issues early and recommend solutions

Drive Business Development & Profitable Growth

Strategically price renewals
Pursue new business to achieve favorable loss ratios.

Build and Maintain Client Relationships

Partner with brokers, producers, and employers
Conduct field visits and attend client meetings to support account management and client satisfaction

Collaborate Across Departments

Work closely with Claims, Marketing, and Loss Prevention
Participate in projects that enhance operations and customer experience

This role is remote based, with regular field travel required.

Applicants should be able to travel within your designated region for client visits, field meetings, and relationship development.

Desired Qualifications:

Underwriting experience in General Commercial Liability (GCL) and/or Workers’ Compensation Insurance
Effective analytical skills and sound decision-making capabilities
Clear, concise written and verbal communication abilities
Proactive, solution-oriented communication skills, with an emphasis on providing excellent customer service
Proficiency in navigating challenging conversations, negotiating pricing, and clearly communicating the value of our offerings
Demonstrated ability to establish connections, build trust, and identify growth opportunities

Ability to effectively and efficiently engage with brokers and employers both virtually and in person.

Special Requirements

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract.
