Editorial Assistant Position at IGI Global Scientific Publishing:
IGI Global Scientific Publishing is immediately seeking an Editorial Assistant to join our fast-paced, cohesive Journal Development Team. In this role, you can utilize your skills to support the growth and success of scholarly publications. In this position you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of vetted and well-crafted scientific research content, for digital distribution. You will regularly provide support in a variety of editorial and administrative areas including communications with book & journal editors, contributors, and reviewers, along with online research, project tracking and file organization. The Editorial Assistant will also have an assigned set of projects to work with, affording a wonderful opportunity to establish a strong rapport with experts in a multitude of fields. . This position plays a crucial role in engaging our researchers. Position Objective:
The Editorial Assistant in Journal Development is the primary point of contact for the journal editors-in-chief and contributing authors providing the content for IGI Global Scientific Publishing journal publications. The Editorial Assistant is responsible for guiding the development process for each journal he/she/they is/are responsible for overseeing. This includes answering any questions from journal editors-in-chief, contributing authors, and editorial board members, to ensure that the journals are achieving their necessary benchmarks for publication.
Essential Functions:
- Provide administrative support to the Managing Editor and department for organizational and structural benefit.
- Support in-house and executive projects under the direction of the Managing Editor.
- Organize target contacts and coordinate existing contact lists for the Acquisitions Division.
- Assist with call for proposal responses through general correspondence and logging.
- Assist with the categorization and pricing of new book announcements and the finalization of the announced book’s metadata, as well as its correct insertion into the Extranet.
- Assist with the writing of back cover text for new book announcements.
- Assist with the proposal development process through follow-ups to potential authors/editors, keeping track of incomplete proposals and/or those in revision, and notifying the department of responses/updates.
- Assist the Acquisitions Division in new project facilitation through topic research and project brainstorming.
- Assist the Acquisitions Division in tracking competition via the internet and recording competitor information.
- Regularly conduct research to uncover new content and product opportunities.
Position Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications and Journalism, or a related field.
- 1+ years’ experience in an editorial capacity is preferred but not required.
- Experience using computer software such as Microsoft Office and virtual meeting tools. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with project management software experience.
- Exceptional organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize multiple daily tasks and long-term projects in order to meet deadlines.
- Professional demeanor paired with strong interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal).
- Thorough understanding of English grammar and experience with editorial processes.
- Superb attention to detail.
- Ability to work well under pressure
