Position Title: Mortgage Closer
Job Type: Full-Time Classification: Non-Exempt
Salary: Starting at $22.00 per hour
As a member of this team, your primary responsibility is to serve and satisfy the credit union members as well as provide phone and administrative support to the Loan Department. This includes whether your job involves dealing with members directly or providing service to someone who does.
This position requires the employee to provide mortgage closing/post-closing duties that are essential to ensuring proper mortgage loan servicing. Making sound decisions to ensure PFCU’s safety and soundness according to regulatory requirements is critical. Striving to provide excellent member service is employee’s primary goal.
Essential Functions
- Prepare final disclosures and loan documents for First Mortgage loans and forward to settlement agent.
- Follow-up with settlement agent on signed loan documents, mortgages and title policies for closed First Mortgage loans.
- Upon receipt of closing packages call members or Title Agents to gain any missing documentation for the file.
- Verify and check loan documents after the loan closing to ensure documents were properly executed.
- Complete quality control and pre-closing checklist.
- Contact insurance companies and taxing authorities as needed.
- Create loan servicing package and upload documents to Servicer.
- Act as liaison between Mortgage Dept and Cenlar for new loan set-up.
- Must meet departmental minimum standards.
- Perform member account adjustments.
- Accumulate HMDA information per minimum standard.
- Submit monthly reports to Manager by third business day of the month.
- Run outstanding final document report monthly.
- Cross-sell Credit Union products.
- Provide general information to members regarding credit union products and services.
- Educate members of available services.
- Provide loan services to members quickly and efficiently.
- Ensure department security procedures are adhered to.
- Consistently maintain expected level of production.
- Resolve various member inquiries through clear and detailed explanations.
- Serve as backup to mortgage processor and mortgage support.
- Contribute to the team effort by performing all other duties as required.
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required with little or no prior notice.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year administrative experience in a financial institution, preferably loan related.
- Minimum 1 year mortgage closing experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Ability to effectively handle conflict and resolve problems.
- Have a basic understanding of mortgage and loan department products.
- Knowledge of loan origination systems.
- Working knowledge of Symitar system, preferred.
- PC proficiency required.
- Must be detailed oriented.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of regulations regarding loan originations.
- Basic knowledge of all Credit Union products and services.
- Thorough knowledge of Loan policy and procedures.
- Knowledge of proper methods of verifying identification via phone.
- Knowledge of proper phone etiquette.
- Basic knowledge of how to read credit reports.
- Employee must register with the NMLS Registry as required by the S.A.F.E. Act.

- Physical Strength: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Ability to move equipment; ability to operate office equipment; ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. Able to interpret various instructions.
- Mathematics Ability: Ability to perform basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, decimals, etc.
- Language Ability: Ability to read a variety of materials such as books, magazines, and instruction manuals. Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis, correct pronunciation, and variation in word order using present, perfect, and future tenses.
