Full Job Description

Purchasing Agent-Buyer

Established in 1977, SEES Inc. is the largest independent manufacturer and distributor of elevator/escalator replacement parts. We offer medical, dental, vision, and life insurance as well as PTO and profit sharing. SEES is a family business and the atmosphere is one of a close community.

Job Overview:

The purchasing agent will ensure that components and supplies needed for company operations are obtained on time and at the absolute best price possible. Products purchased must meet company specifications and quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Purchasing Agent:

· Work with company departments to determine supply needs and time lines

· Monitor inventory to anticipate and prevent shortages, and prepares requests for bids which provide accurate, detailed information to potential vendors about the products the company seeks to purchase

· Seek price quotes from multiple vendors and negotiates to secure the lowest price available on goods of comparable quality

· Investigate potential suppliers to ensure their reliability and the quality of their products, and places orders with adequate lead time to ensure on-time arrival of supplies

· Monitor orders in progress to ensure items are delivered according to the time line and specifications

· Work with the Receiving Department and Finance Department to resolve issues with invoices and packing slips etc.

· Contact suppliers to schedule or expedite deliveries and to resolve shortages, missed or late deliveries, and other problems

· Review open Purchase orders and obtain current status of all open purchase orders on a bi-weekly schedule

· Update the system with vendor, pricing and delivery information

· Respond to customer and supplier inquiries about order status, changes, or cancellations

· Work with suppliers to address problems that arise, such as items being out of stock or backordered

· Oversees the importing of goods from our China facility. Performing landed cost and tracking of shipments

· Track and see to completion the return of goods to suppliers either credits or replacement parts

· Track and report cost savings for compensation

General Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree or CPM certification

· Minimum of 5 years of experience in a purchasing position

· Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.

· Must possess strong, effective negotiating skills

· Strong Word, Excel and Outlook skills. Internet savvy. Ability to assimilate, analyze and summarize data relative to the procurement function

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels in the organization

· Previous experience sourcing order purchasing electro-mechanical components.

· Having a good understanding of mechanical and electrical properties a bonus.

· Must possess the ability to work independently and efficiently

· Must possess impeccable attention to details and accuracy

· Must possess a strong work ethic and work well with others

· Must have reliable transportation and be punctual

· Having experience with Syspro ERP system a plus.
