Job Description
SOL of Potomac is seeking an experienced cannabis retail leader to oversee all daily operations as the General Manager of our flagship dispensary. This position is responsible for leading every aspect of the business, including sales performance, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, employee development, inventory oversight, financial performance, and guest experience.
The General Manager serves as the senior on-site leader and is responsible for creating a culture of accountability, hospitality, and operational excellence while ensuring compliance with all Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA), COMAR, and SOL of Potomac standards.
The ideal candidate is an experienced cannabis leader with a proven history of developing high-performing teams, driving sales, maintaining operational excellence, and delivering an exceptional guest experience.
ScopeLeadership & Operations
- Lead all daily operations of SOL of Potomac Dispensary.
- Develop and execute operational strategies that support company goals and long-term growth.
- Build and maintain a positive, accountable, and performance-driven workplace culture.
- Serve as the primary operational leader for all departments.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and inspection-ready facility.
- Partner with the Director of Operations & Compliance to implement company initiatives.
- Lead daily manager meetings and communicate operational priorities.
- Ensure departments work collaboratively to maximize efficiency and guest satisfaction.
Sales & Guest Experience
- Drive revenue growth while maintaining premium guest service standards.
- Monitor sales trends, labor performance, and operational KPIs.
- Develop strategies to increase average transaction value, guest retention, and loyalty participation.
- Ensure every guest receives the SOL of Potomac Experience.
- Resolve complex guest concerns professionally and efficiently.
- Maintain merchandising, presentation, and operational standards throughout the dispensary.
Leadership & Employee Development
- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and develop leadership and hourly employees.
- Coach Assistant General Managers, Leads, Inventory Managers, and department leaders.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and development planning.
- Build succession plans for future leaders within SOL of Potomac.
- Foster a culture focused on accountability, recognition, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Manage staffing levels, scheduling, labor budgets, and employee performance.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure full compliance with all Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA), COMAR, and SOL of Potomac policies.
- Maintain inspection-ready conditions at all times.
- Lead regulatory inspections, internal audits, and compliance reviews.
- Ensure proper inventory controls, security procedures, purchasing limits, and cash handling standards are consistently followed.
- Investigate compliance concerns and implement corrective action plans.
- Partner with the Director of Operations & Compliance on operational improvements and risk mitigation.
Financial & Business Performance
- Own the store's profit and loss (P&L) performance.
- Develop and manage labor budgets and operating expenses.
- Monitor payroll efficiency and staffing productivity.
- Analyze daily, weekly, and monthly business metrics.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Support forecasting, inventory planning, and financial reporting.
Inventory & Operational Excellence
- Partner with the Inventory Manager to ensure accurate inventory and product availability.
- Review inventory reports, cycle counts, receiving, and reconciliation processes.
- Ensure timely processing of deliveries and product launches.
- Maintain proper product presentation and menu accuracy.
- Support inventory investigations and operational audits when necessary.
Community & Brand Leadership
- Represent SOL of Potomac professionally within the local cannabis community.
- Build relationships with vendors and industry partners.
- Support educational events, community outreach, and marketing initiatives.
- Champion the SOL of Potomac brand and company culture.
Additional Responsibilities
- Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) when scheduled.
- Support new store initiatives and operational improvements.
- Assist with special projects, company meetings, and leadership development.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by SOL of Potomac leadership.
QualificationsRequired
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA) Agent Registration.
- Minimum three (3) years of management experience in a licensed cannabis dispensary.
- Previous experience as a General Manager or Assistant General Manager of a licensed cannabis dispensary is strongly preferred.
- Experience managing teams of 20 or more employees.
- Strong understanding of Maryland cannabis regulations, COMAR, METRC, and dispensary operations.
- Demonstrated success driving sales, profitability, operational excellence, and employee engagement.
- Experience managing payroll, labor budgets, scheduling, and financial performance.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
Schedule Requirements
- Weekend availability is mandatory.
- Must be available to work Saturdays and Sundays as business needs require.
- Must be available for mornings, evenings, holidays, and emergency operational coverage.
- Ability to work outside normal business hours during audits, inventory events, inspections, or operational needs.
Preferred
- Dutchie POS experience.
- METRC experience.
- Experience opening a new cannabis dispensary.
- Multi-unit management experience.
- Responsible Vendor Training certification.
