Full Job Description

Job Overview
Overnight Youth Crisis Workers will work in the new crisis intervention beds at O'Connell Children's Shelter to assist youth in crisis with stabilizing and transitioning back to the community. O’Connell Children’s Shelter offers a variety of services for youth in the community and is a dedicated program providing a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment for children and youth including those identifying as LGBTQIA+ in foster care. We seek individuals committed to teaching our residents a wide range of skills, with a focus on interpersonal development, preventive care, independent living, social skills, and physical and mental health.

Responsibilities

Provide continuous supervision and support to youth in crisis, ensuring safety and structure at all times.
Engage youth in positive, developmentally appropriate interactions that foster emotional regulation and relationship-building.
Assist in implementing individualized treatment and behavior support plans in coordination with treatment team.
De-escalate situations using trauma-informed and non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
Supervise and participate in youth routines including meals, hygiene, recreation, education support and bedtime routines.
Accurately document observations, behavior notes, incident reports and shift logs in accordance with policy and regulations.
Monitor facility safety and cleanliness, completing routine checks

Entry Level Qualifications

Be at least 21 years of age.
Posess a Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, education or related field; OR have (3) years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
At least (1) year direct experience working with youth in crisis, behavioral health, or residential setting
Be able to pass comprehensive background checks, including a national fingerprint-based record check.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working with children and youth, ideally in a crisis or therapeutic setting.
Certification in CPR and First Aid (or willingness to obtain shortly after hiring).
Training in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, or trauma-informed care.
Knowledge of psychological, social-emotional, and trauma-aware practices, as well as cultural competencies.
Familiarity with case management or documentation practices.
Basic computer skills for record-keeping and documentation.

Applicants must successfully complete background checks, physical health evaluation and TB screening prior to beginning employment.
