Full Job Description

Description

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for dispatching the proper crew to service locations, managing service requests, coordinating service activities, and ensuring prompt and effective resolution of customer issues. This position is also responsible for conducting outreach to commercial businesses, promoting City sanitation services, and assisting with the sale and setup of commercial dumpster services. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, customer service, organizational, and sales skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Examples of Duties

MAJOR DUTIES

Responsible for dispatching via radio and/or telephone the appropriate crew to problem areas and/or service calls received via telephone, email, or Munis.
Responsible for creating, distributing, and maintaining all on-call lists for all of Public Works.
Responsible for creating and maintaining a database for routine maintenance of Streets and Sanitation vehicles.
Responsible for coordinating community education regarding Streets and Sanitation policies and requirements.
Responsible for processing department bills in a timely manner.
Answers telephone calls and greets visitors; provides information and assistance and routes calls to appropriate personnel.
Responds to customer complaints and concerns and dispatches appropriate personnel.
Coordinates and creates work orders for crew leaders.
Coordinates and schedules work with the Streets and Sanitation Supervisor.
Prepares and processes department timesheets.
Prepares purchase orders and requisitions and performs monthly reconciliation of purchase card transactions.
Communicates with Customer Service and other City departments as needed.
Serves as the primary point of contact for customers regarding service inquiries, updates, and issue resolution.
Maintains and manages accurate records and files.
Contacts commercial businesses to promote and sell City commercial dumpster and sanitation services.
Conducts outreach to existing and prospective commercial customers to identify opportunities for new dumpster accounts and expanded sanitation services.
Explains commercial dumpster service options, collection schedules, City requirements, and applicable rates to prospective customers.
Assists commercial customers with establishing new dumpster service and coordinates dumpster delivery, placement, and collection services with sanitation operations.
Maintains records of commercial sales contacts, prospective customers, new accounts, and service opportunities.
Follows up with prospective commercial customers and works to increase participation in the City's commercial sanitation program.
Develops and maintains positive working relationships with local businesses and commercial sanitation customers.
Addresses and resolves service-related issues promptly and escalates complex problems to supervisors or management as needed.
Maintains accurate records of service requests, work orders, commercial sales activities, and daily operations; generates reports to track service performance, commercial growth, and future needs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Assists the Streets and Sanitation Manager and Supervisors with the interview process and maintains accurate interview documentation.

Streets and Sanitation Manager

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of related administrative, customer service, sales, and technical duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to provide administrative and technical support for department operations while assisting with the growth of the City's commercial sanitation services. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of department operations and the expansion of commercial sanitation accounts.

CONTACTS

Contacts are typically with coworkers, public safety personnel, customers, commercial businesses, vendors, and members of the public.
Contacts are typically to exchange information, resolve problems, provide services, and promote City commercial sanitation and dumpster services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.
The work is typically performed in an office.
The position may occasionally require visits to commercial businesses or service locations for customer outreach and service coordination.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
General knowledge of City jurisdiction, including streets and businesses.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with other departments.
Basic knowledge of hazardous materials; certification preferred.
Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with completion of an apprenticeship/internship or three to five years of experience in a similar position.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Comprehensive knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; proficient use of service management software or CRM systems.
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
Strong communication, customer service, and sales skills.
Ability to contact commercial businesses, promote City sanitation services, and assist with the sale of commercial dumpster services.
Experience in sales, business development, customer outreach, or commercial sanitation services is preferred.

The City of Lawrenceville offers a complete benefits package to full-time employees including health care, dental, vision, retirement, deferred compensation plans, health savings accounts, life insurance, long-term disability, short-term disability, holidays, and personal time off.

Health

Health insurance benefits become active on the 31st day of employment. Health benefits include major medical, dental, and vision.
There are two High-Deductible Health Plan options with HSA to help you manage medical costs and save for future care tax free.

Retirement

Retirement plans are Defined Contribution (401a), and Deferred Compensation (457b).
- The 401a (City makes a 4% contribution beginning on first pay period after hire date)
- 457b (Employee contributions only)
If an employee contributes at least 4% into the 457b, which is voluntary, the City will make an additional 6% contribution into the 401a, totaling 10% into the employee’s 401a.
Each contribution is a percentage of the employee’s earnings for that pay period.
There is a graduated vesting schedule into the 401a plan.
- One year - 20%
- Two years – 40%
- Three years – 60%
- Four years – 80%
- Five years – 100%

Protection

There is City paid short-term disability, long-term disability, accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) and life insurance that pays two times the employee’s annual salary. Employees can opt into supplemental life insurance for self, spouse and children and pay the premium.

Employees earn PTO in lieu of individual vacation and sick leave; PTO is earned as follows:
- First year of service – 3.692 hours per pay period (Department Directors accrue PTO hours at a rate of 5.538 from first day and moving forward until after ten years of service).
- 1-5 years of service – 5.538 hours per pay period
- 5-10 years of service – 7.384 hours per pay period
- 10-15 years of service – 9.230 hours per pay period
- Over 15 years of service – 11.076 hours per pay period
Salaried employees are given 40 hours of Comp Vacation on January 1st of each year, that must be used by December 31st of that same year.

Pay Interval

Employees are paid on a bi-weekly basis; pay periods begin on Sunday and payday is every other Thursday. There is a mandatory direct deposit requirement.

Tuition Reimbursement

Tuition Reimbursement towards associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degrees, available to all full-time employees after one year of employment. (exclusions apply)
