Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Divisional General Manager to lead and drive the success of our business division. This pivotal role involves overseeing all operational, financial, and strategic aspects of the division, ensuring alignment with corporate goals. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership, management expertise, and a passion for business development. As a key member of the executive team, you will foster a high-performance culture, optimize processes, and deliver sustainable growth through innovative strategies and effective team management.

At GT Midwest, the General Manager (GM) is the senior leader of an operating division. An operating division consists of a team of employees, physical facilities, and a group of customers in a loosely defined geographic area. As the senior leader, the GM is responsible for all aspects of the division’s business except most accounting, IT, and administration of payroll and benefits. Critical areas of responsibility include:

· Selection and development of leaders and team members

· Customer and business development

· Exceptional Customer Service

Inventory Planning and Improvement

· Warehouse operations

· Fabrication & Production operations

· Continuous Improvement of business processes

· Facility Management and Real Estate

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The GM is responsible for making sure the division achieves its goals. In other words, the GM has only one specific duty and responsibility: achieving the division’s goals within the boundaries established by the law, GT’s values, and GT’s Employee Handbook, Quality Manual, and other policies and procedures. Because GT is primarily a distributor, the two most critical elements of achieving goals are customer orientationand inventory management. GM is intimately involved with both.

Furthermore, each GM is part of GT’s overall management team. As such, the GM will participate in developing strategies and plans concerning business development, inventory management, production, and warehousing. Within his or her division, the GM is responsible for executing those strategies and plans. This process includes developing an annual budget for sales, gross margin, expenses, and operating income, monitoring results, and making the normal adjustments that are required to meet that budget.

As senior leader of the division, the GM is also responsible for developing and managing relationships with customers, prospects, and suppliers. These relationships often include negotiating contracts and agreements. GMs occasionally represent GT at industry-group and supplier sponsored events.

LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISORY SKILLS

All division personnel report either directly or indirectly to the GM. Therefore, the GM is responsible for the selection and development of those people. The number of division personnel will depend on the needs of the division. The GM’s direct reports may include both managers and individual contributors. Furthermore, the GM must create and maintain a work environment that promotes employee engagement, camaraderie, teamwork, customer service, and a sense of urgency. Above all, the GM must understand and comply with all aspects of GT’s Employee Handbook and all other HR related policies and procedures.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

A GM must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and must possess excellent public speaking skills. A GM communicates with fellow GT employees, supplier personnel, and customer personnel ranging from operators on the line to senior management. They are also required to develop and make presentations to audiences of varying size.

COMPUTER SKILLS

GMs must have extensive computer skills. GMs regularly use Microsoft Office products, GT’s ERP system, and GT’s CRM system.

FINANCIAL & Business Acumen/Industrial Distribution and Manufacturing Economic Aptitude

GM must have a fundamental understanding of accounting and finance. As the senior leader of their division, they must understand and analyze the division’s financial statements, investigate noteworthy results and take corrective action as needed based thereon to improve overall business performance and profitability. GM’s need to constantly have knowledge and awareness of the present and changing economic landscape and competitive factors and steer the business accordingly.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Should carry a professional demeanor and brand as they represent the business and culture of GT Midwest. Maintaining strong levels of situational awareness and dynamic personality traits and conducting oneself with high levels of emotional intelligence. GMs must maintain a clean driving record and keep their vehicle (whether personal or company-provided) clean and neat.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear; and lift up to 60lbs. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit, all for extended periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Very high energy, sometimes stressful or demanding deadlines. Frequent travel is required.
