GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Executive Director (ED) of The Carolyn Campagna Kleefeld Center for Creativity in the Arts is responsible for leading MCLA's public arts program-MOSAIC-while developing Kleefeld Center programming, managing gallery spaces, and working with faculty and students to promote arts and culture. The Executive Director is responsible for the organization and implementation of creative programming to enhance and promote MCLA as a national leader of art and arts education to the cultural and creative community locally, regionally, and globally. The ED will be responsible for working closely with all academic departments, especially Fine and Performing Arts, to select and curate programming that can be integrated into college curriculum in service of learning outcomes. The Executive Director works to cultivate and foster relationships; to introduce new and diverse offerings, opportunities, and people to MCLA; and to further its efforts and commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, which are core values of the College. In addition, the ED is also responsible for serving the artistic and cultural interests of North Adams and the Berkshires region, maintaining collaborative connections with arts organizations-Mass MoCA, Clark Art Institute, Williams College Museum of Art, to name only the most proximate institutions.
MCLA's MOSAIC programming is currently undergoing a period of substantial growth and transition, as its new home, the Carolyn Campagna Kleefeld Center for Creativity in the Arts, is planned to open on campus in Fall 2027. Currently under construction, this interdisciplinary arts and teaching facility will serve as MOSAIC's primary gallery and arts programming space on campus and will support MCLA programs across the curriculum by providing opportunities for students to engage with artists, their work, and the community. It will also serve as a dynamic and flexible space for faculty engagement and curricular innovation, fostering meaningful interactions with a rotating array of exhibits and programs. The ED will oversee all artistic programming, budgeting, and staffing needs of the facility and of MOSAIC. During the transition period prior to the Center's opening, the ED will oversee previously scheduled MOSAIC programming while simultaneously planning the programming for the Center upon its anticipated opening in Fall 2027. Along with the financial gift that establishes the center, the donor is providing financial support for staffing, as well as furnishing artworks for the regular programming of one of the Center's two galleries. The Director will serve as the primary contact between MOSAIC and the donor's representative in managing these funds and programming.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Create, develop, and manage arts and culture programming. The Executive Director will
oversee and implement MCLA community and campus arts programming such as exhibitions, performances and public lectures in both the Campagna Kleefeld Center for Creativity in the Arts and other locations on and off campus;
oversee and implement annual Benedetti and Summer Arts Immersion residency programs;
connect the MCLA community with surrounding communities to ensure and sustain MCLA's presence and representation in the local and global arts community;
produce an internationally diverse program that is collaborative, thought-provoking, sustainable, and distinctive in its willingness to push creative boundaries;
respond to current issues, social trends and global themes so that programming remains timely and relevant.
2. Oversee the day-to-day management of activities under MOSAIC. The Executive Director will:
manage budgets and engage in planning for MOSAIC and its associated programs and activities. With the approval of the VPAA, oversee the negotiating, creating, and executing contracts for artists, staff, independent contractors and vendors;
oversee and collaborate with the MCLA Marketing Department to plan the strategy for marketing of all programming for MOSAIC including print and social media;
oversee Kleefeld Center events schedule, related curatorial projects, and programs to ensure the delivery of the most diverse visual offerings;
hire and supervise Kleefeld Center and MOSAIC personnel;
hire and support student interns.
3. Work closely with academic departments, especially Fine and Performing Arts, to advance the goals of MOSAIC and integrate them into the MCLA curriculum. The Director will:
communicate regularly and work collaboratively with the faculty and staff in all departments regarding their departmental needs and goals and assist in advocating for the arts across campus;
foster faculty relationships in order to embed the arts within course curricula to animate the classroom and enhance student learning across disciplines.
4. support & promote faculty intersections through MOSAIC interdisciplinary scholarships and professional development opportunities.
5. Be the community liaison for arts and cultural partnerships between MCLA and the wider community. The Executive Director will:
Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Advancement to identify and write grants, obtain sponsorships and contributions, cultivate donors and plan fundraising events for MOSAIC and other related projects;
cultivate and manage expanded internal and external partnerships;
Represent MOSAIC and MCLA as a spokesperson and thought leader by participating in and presenting at local and national forums, convenings, committees, and boards.
6. Work with peer College personnel and offices to embed Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) across arts and culture programming for faculty, staff, students, and community. The ED will:
utilize MOSAIC as a platform for dialogue and exchange among diverse people and communities, and initiate dialogue where faculty, staff and student voices inspire innovation and long-term impact;
develop and implement objectives and strategies to assess how MOSAIC is meeting the needs of the campus community (most importantly, the students) and ensuring the participation and engagement of diverse audiences.
Job Requirements:
Graduate degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Excellent understanding of and experience in Arts Management.
Ability to work with college academic departments as well as the surrounding cultural communities.
Demonstrated evidence of entrepreneurial thinking and success.
Prior budget and planning experience in a cultural organization or small business setting.
Grant writing experience with a proven track record of success.
Highly developed organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Minimum of 7 years of administrative experience required. Prior experience in managing staff desirable.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, permanent, benefited position within the APA bargaining unit. The annual salary for this position is between $110,000 - $120,000 per year. Position starts on 10/5/2026.
