Position Overview

The Therapeutic Rehabilitation Program Behavioral Health Specialist supports adults with severe mental illness and related behavioral health needs by providing structured, scheduled, recovery-oriented rehabilitation services designed to reduce functional limitations and restore the individual’s highest possible level of community functioning. Services are provided individually and in groups and are focused on daily living skills, self-monitoring of symptoms, emotional regulation, crisis coping, interpersonal skill development, wellness planning, and connection to community supports.

This role is appropriate for candidates seeking work within a Kentucky Therapeutic Rehabilitation Program environment and is especially suited for individuals pursuing or holding Certified Social Worker credentials. Caritas Care Solutions provides CSW supervision for eligible staff consistent with organizational policy, professional scope, and applicable Kentucky requirements.

Core Responsibilities

Therapeutic Rehabilitation and Skill Development

Provide structured rehabilitation services that support restoration of social, personal, community, and daily living skills.
Teach and reinforce coping strategies, emotional regulation, symptom self-monitoring, crisis prevention, and interpersonal skills.
Assist clients with development of independent living skills, community integration, wellness routines, and recovery-supportive behaviors.
Use strengths-based, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered interventions.

Assessment Support, Recovery Planning, and Goal Implementation

Support development and implementation of individualized, measurable rehabilitation goals identified in the plan of care.
Contribute observations and progress updates to clinical and case management staff for care coordination and treatment planning purposes.

Group Facilitation and Psychoeducation

Lead rehabilitation groups, peer-informed recovery groups, and psychoeducational sessions.
Create a safe, inclusive, structured, and recovery-focused group environment.
Deliver curriculum and activities focused on wellness, symptom management, crisis coping, communication skills, daily living skills, and relapse prevention.
Document attendance, interventions, client response, and progress toward goals.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration and Supervision

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—Case Manager and Clinical Team.
Participate in team meetings, case reviews, supervision, and quality improvement activities.
Work under appropriate clinical or program supervision as required by role, credential, scope of practice, payer expectations, and Kentucky regulations.
For eligible employees pursuing Certified Social Worker licensure or advancement, participate in CSW supervision provided through Caritas Care Solutions in accordance with applicable requirements and supervisor availability.

Documentation, Compliance, and Quality Standards

Maintain timely, accurate, objective, and clinically relevant documentation of services provided.
Ensure documentation reflects medical necessity, direct service delivery, interventions used, client response, progress toward plan-of-care goals, and follow-up needs.
Adhere to HIPAA, 42 C.F.R. Part 2 when applicable, Medicaid documentation expectations, organizational policies, and ethical standards.
Support audit readiness by completing notes, service logs, group documentation, and required forms according to agency timelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, human services, sociology, public health, or a related behavioral health field preferred; high school diploma or GED required for peer support roles when applicable.
Preferred: Certified Social Worker credential, eligibility for CSW supervision, or active pursuit of Kentucky behavioral health credentialing preferred.
Kentucky Certified Adult Peer Support Specialist, optional.
Preferred: Experience working with adults and/or children with serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, homelessness, crisis needs, or community-based behavioral health needs.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and any other screenings required by state regulations, Medicaid requirements, and organizational policy.
Must comply with a pre-employment drug screening as a condition of employment.

Skills and Competencies

Strong interpersonal, engagement, active listening, and de-escalation skills.
Ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing crisis, psychiatric symptoms, housing instability, trauma, or complex social needs.
Ability to facilitate groups, coach skill development, and support individualized rehabilitation goals.
Must have proficient computer/ technology skills needed complete documentation in an electronic health record.
Commitment to cultural humility, ethical practice, confidentiality, dignity, and service to underserved populations.

Work Environment and Expectations

Community-based, office-based, field-based, outreach, and crisis stabilization work may be required.
Flexible scheduling may be required to meet client needs, including participation in group programming, crisis response, or community appointments.
Staff must be able to respond professionally in fast-paced and high-acuity situations.
Reliable transportation may be required for community-based service delivery.
Employees are expected to participate in supervision, training, credential maintenance, and compliance activities.

Compensation and Employment Type

Full-time employment.
Compensation commensurate with education, experience, licensure, certification, and assigned responsibilities.
Health, vision, and dental benefits are available for full-time employees.
CSW supervision is available through Caritas Care Solutions for eligible employees, subject to role fit, supervisor approval, and applicable Kentucky requirements.
