Tool Room Machinist

Location: Archdale, NC 27263
Pay: $28.00 to $34.00 per hour, based on experience

Monday through Friday
7:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Overtime may be required until approximately 4:30 PM based on production needs.

Occasional Saturday work may be required.

Employees typically work approximately 40 to 46 hours per week.

Job Description

A Confidential Company in Archdale, NC is seeking an experienced Tool Room Machinist to support metal fabrication and stamping operations.

This is a skilled machining and tooling position responsible for programming, setting up, and operating tool room equipment to manufacture, maintain, troubleshoot, modify, and repair dies, tooling, fixtures, jigs, and other precision components.

The Tool Room Machinist will work with minimal supervision and provide hands on technical support to production departments. This individual must be capable of diagnosing tooling and die problems, making necessary repairs and adjustments, performing preventative maintenance, and helping reduce production downtime.

Only candidates with relevant hands on machining, tooling, die maintenance, or closely related experience will be considered. This is NOT a training opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

Program, set up, and operate tool room equipment including EDM machines, CNC mills, manual mills, lathes, saws, drills, and other machining equipment

Read and interpret blueprints, tooling drawings, work orders, technical specifications, and production instructions

Manufacture and modify tooling, dies, fixtures, jigs, stamps, modules, and other precision components

Perform die and module changeovers and assist with die setup

Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, sharpen, and repair dies, stamps, and tooling

Diagnose tooling and die problems and make necessary adjustments or repairs to reduce production downtime

Replace worn, damaged, or broken tooling components

Assist with tooling drawings, layouts, and technical projects

Support stamping and other production departments with tooling, machine setup, and process related needs

Assist with resolving production issues involving workflow, rework, efficiency, part quality, and equipment performance

Perform preventative maintenance on EDM machines, CNC mills, and other assigned tool room equipment

Use precision measuring and inspection equipment including calipers, micrometers, tape measures, protractors, gauges, and Planar inspection equipment

Perform required shop math, including converting fractions to decimals and feet to inches

Inspect completed work to ensure parts and tooling meet required dimensions and quality standards

Safely use hand and power tools including grinders, wrenches, hammers, pry bars, pliers, and other fabrication tools

Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, tooling changes, and completed work when required

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized tool room and work area

Follow established safety, quality, ISO, and Lean Manufacturing standards

Provide additional production and technical support as needed

Requirements

Previous professional experience as a Tool Room Machinist, Tool and Die Machinist, Toolmaker, Die Maintenance Technician, CNC Machinist, or closely related skilled machining position

Hands on experience operating tool room machining equipment

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work orders, and machine instructions

Ability to accurately use precision measuring and inspection equipment

Ability to read measurements to 1/8, 1/16, and 1/32 of an inch

Ability to convert fractions to decimals and feet to inches

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills

Experience manufacturing, modifying, maintaining, or repairing tooling and precision components

Experience with die maintenance, sharpening, repair, and changeovers is strongly preferred

Experience operating EDM equipment, Haas CNC mills, manual mills, and lathes is preferred

Previous experience in a metal fabrication or stamping environment is strongly preferred

Experience with Planar or similar inspection equipment is preferred

Working knowledge of ISO, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing principles is preferred

Operational knowledge of CNC cutting machines, press brakes, drills, and saws is beneficial

Must demonstrate strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and craftsmanship

Must be capable of troubleshooting and completing assignments with minimal supervision

Must be dependable and maintain consistent attendance and punctuality

Must be comfortable working in an active manufacturing environment with dust, loud noise, and temperatures ranging from approximately 20°F to 102°F

Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday

Must be able to meet the physical and lifting requirements of the position

Steel toe shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection are required

No entry level candidates or candidates seeking on the job machining training will be considered. Applicants must have relevant hands on experience that demonstrates the ability to perform skilled machining, tooling, die maintenance, or closely related work.

This is a Temp to Perm opportunity for an experienced machinist seeking a long term position in a hands on metal fabrication and stamping environment.

The ideal candidate takes pride in craftsmanship, accuracy, and quality and understands the importance of keeping production equipment and tooling operational. Candidates should be comfortable troubleshooting problems independently, responding to changing production priorities, and working across multiple departments.

This position is best suited for someone who enjoys a true tool room environment where machining, tooling, troubleshooting, repair, and production support are all part of the job.
