Full Job Description

Sous Chef

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following. The Sous Chef serves as a culinary leader and second-in-command in the kitchen, combining hands-on culinary expertise with operational leadership, staff development, financial oversight, and food safety management.

Follows approved menu and purchasing programs.
Manages food-related budgets, labor costs, and overall financial performance.
Plans and oversees banquet and event food operations.
Forecasts food needs, orders inventory, and schedules kitchen staff to support operational needs.
Supports employee coaching, discipline, training, and team development initiatives.
Ensures food quality, consistency, freshness, and presentation standards are maintained at all times.
Supervises food preparation, storage, and daily kitchen operations to ensure efficiency and compliance.
Assists with equipment maintenance and adherence to health, safety, and sanitation standards.
Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment in accordance with established guidelines.
Escalates critical operational issues to management promptly and appropriately.
Provides leadership and guidance to kitchen staff, promoting teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence.
Monitors food handling, preparation, and storage procedures to ensure food safety compliance.
Readily assists colleagues with miscellaneous duties to support kitchen operations and service excellence.
Must be able to work varying shifts, weekends, holidays, and extended workdays as needed.

Requirements

Candidates should have 1-3 years of kitchen leadership experience, preferably in a high-volume food service, hospitality, entertainment, or restaurant environment.

Experience with catered and special events is preferred.

A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered, and current ServSafe certification is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.00 - $28.60 per hour
