Job Description and Duties

The Department of Pesticide Regulation is seeking an energetic and motivated Information Technology Associate for our Information Technology Branch team.

The Information Technology Associate (ITA) in the Information Technology Branch (ITB) in the Enterprise Support Unit (ESU) is responsible for various technical and analytical tasks related to desktop computer support. This includes promptly addressing client requests for hardware or software assistance, using ServiceNow ITSM ticketing software to document and track support activities. The IT Associate perform upgrades, repairs, and replacements of software and hardware, specifically dealing with more complex issues relates to in-depth troubleshooting of hardware, software, and networking problems. The role involves leadership on IT system studies and collaborating on complex technology projects. The ITA is adept at creating IT documentation, assisting other technicians in solving computer issues, and providing team support. The ITA collaborates with the ESU Lead and utilizes tools such as endpoint management solutions, hardware and software asset management systems, user access management, remote control applications, and enterprise and cloud-based licensing to manage desktop systems centrally. They assist the ESU Lead with procurement, hardware and software maintenance tracking, and communication with vendors. Additionally, they provide technical support for communication equipment and contribute to IT projects, including planning and reporting.

The ITA utilizes ServiceNow ITSM to manage and document customer support and systems administration requests, provides audio and video conferencing support related to hardware and software. and assists IT equipment survey.

Working Conditions

Performance of these duties requires the use of computers, infrastructure hardware, networks, databases, electronic mail (both internal and external), voicemail, and the Internet.
May occasionally work evening or weekend hours in response to system outages/recovery, maintenance, or upgrade activities.
Occasional statewide travel on short notice may be required to support regional office locations. Travel may require overnight stays, driving, and flying.
Performance of the duties indicated for this position occasionally require the ability to lift and transport equipment up to 50lbs.

NOTE: This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.

Beginning July 1st, 2026, it is anticipated this position will be office-centered and employees will be expected to report to the office at least four days per week.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience supporting users remotely and in person at an enterprise level within a ServiceDesk environment
Experience configuring, deploying, and maintaining laptops and other end-user computing devices and peripherals
Experience with Microsoft Office365 configuration, imaging, support, and deployment
Experience with administrating Microsoft unified endpoint management solutions such as Intune and SCCM
Experience administrating Audio/Video hardware and software
Experience using an ITSM ticketing system such as ServiceNow
Knowledge of networking essentials and troubleshooting methods
Experience with mobile device support
Experience in writing and developing IT documentation for processes and procedures
Knowledge of software licensing principles and practices
