Full Job Description

The Agency

Since 1975, Pathways of Hope has led a community effort to provide access to food, shelter and housing to those in North Orange County experiencing hunger, housing insecurity and homelessness. We operate a community access point, multiple housing sites and a variety of programming models, and collaborate with a wide array of community partners including local government, school districts, businesses, healthcare providers and other stakeholders engaged in creating a community that provides for the needs of its residents. Job Summary

The Opportunity

Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Development, this position plays an important role in advancing the agency’s fundraising, community engagement, and awareness efforts through strategic communications, compelling storytelling, and consistent outreach.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, high levels of knowledge on best practices for securing and maintaining government and private grant revenue, the capacity for grant management and oversight, assessing new opportunities and assessing risk and opportunity for implementation of new grant and collaborative opportunities. The candidate must also possess a track record of successful problem-solving and the ability to work independently.

Job Summary

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Marketing & Communications 
Work in concert with and in support of the Director of Development to implement integrated marketing and communications strategies aligned with organizational fundraising and engagement goals.
Create, schedule and manage content for social media, email marketing, website, newsletters, and print materials, ensuring alignment with development priorities and campaign objectives.
Play a key role and assist with fundraising strategies in concert with Director of Development
Develop and maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity across all communications in coordination with the Director of Development.
Write, edit, and distribute press releases, client stories, event communications, and other marketing materials that advance development goals.
Capture, curate, and organize photos, videos, and testimonials to support storytelling and enhance donor and community engagement efforts.
Manage and update the organization's website to ensure content is current and engaging.
Collaborate closely with internal staff, volunteers, and community partners in support of development and communications initiatives.
Monitor marketing analytics and provide insights and recommendations to the Director of Development to improve engagement, reach, and campaign effectiveness.
Community Engagement & Events 
Develop event promotional materials and attendee communications.
Support the Director of Development in coordinating marketing campaigns that promote fundraising events, donor engagement, volunteer recruitment, and community awareness initiatives. 
Coordinate event communications, sponsorship materials, signage, and collateral in alignment with development strategies.
Attend community events to promote Pathways of Hope and network with local businesses, CBOs, and community partners. 
Work in support of the Director of Development to assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of fundraising and community events.
Development Administration
Maintain donor and event records in the CRM and assist the Director of Development by inputting gifts into the CRM system, with gift acknowledgments and reporting.
Perform other development, marketing, and communications duties as assigned in support of the Director of Development.
Support production of annual reports, impact reports, stewardship pieces, campaign communications, and other publications. 
Follow up with Donors via written and oral communications, sending thank you letters, emails, and phone calls.
Maintain confidentiality of donor, financial, employee, and other organization information.
Work with other departments to gather valuable information for strategic storytelling purposes.

Miscellaneous:

Attend staff meetings, trainings, community events, networking opportunities, and other meetings as needed to support marketing, communications, development, and organizational initiatives.
Participate in ongoing professional development through conferences, webinars, trainings, and other learning opportunities related to nonprofit marketing, communications, fundraising, community engagement, and development.
Provide additional support for development, marketing, communications, fundraising, and community engagement activities as assigned by the Director of Development or organizational leadership.

Contacts and Relationships:

The Development Specialist reports to the Director of Development and works closely with members of the agency’s leadership team, as well as key members of the Program and Operations Departments.

Qualification Guidelines:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 1 year of experience in Development, Marketing, or Communications field.
Motivated and show the ability to work independently.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience managing social media platforms, email marketing, and website content.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Excellent Project Management skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design platforms preferred.
Experience with CRM/database systems and nonprofit fundraising is a plus.
Valid California Driver License and Proof of Insurance
Ability to work collaboratively in support of leadership and cross-functional teams

Compensation

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position with compensation of $28 per hour.

Pathways of Hope operates a 4-day work week Monday through Thursday.

Physical Job Requirements

Ability to sit for extended periods of time while working at a computer.
Uses hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment for up to 8 hours a day
Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less with or without corrective lenses and vision sufficient to use equipment or operate a car safely.
Hearing and speech within normal ranges and sufficient for clear communication face to face and on the telephone
Lifts up to 15 pounds regularly and 30 pounds occasionally.
Exposed to typical office environment conditions and noise levels
