Full Job Description

Early Childhood Intervention Therapist

Job Type: Part-Time, with the ability to grow into a full-time position.

Location: Attachment areas of San Gabriel Pomona Regional Center. Commute times will range between 10 and 30 minutes.

Primary Purpose:

We are seeking caring and motivated individuals to provide early developmental stimulation for young children and simple tools to help parents understand their child’s early development. You will work directly with caregivers in clinic, home, community, or school setting, to support communication, social, behavior, routines, and overall growth for children ages birth to 36 months.

All services follow the IFSP (Individual Family Service Plan) and take place in natural environments such as home, community, and clinic. This role focuses on relationship-building, intentional play-based learning, and family guidance.

This position is perfect for experienced preschool teachers, infant/toddler teachers, and Bachelor-level students who want hands-on experience in early childhood development, behavior support, family guidance, and early intervention. The experience gained is highly valuable for those pursuing careers in teaching, psychology, social work, counseling, speech/occupational therapy, ABA, or related fields.

Key Responsibilities:

Child Interaction & Curriculum

Engage with children respectfully, using responsive language and developmentally appropriate activities to stimulate language development and support growth.
Observe and respond to children’s behaviors with sensitivity, using behavior support strategies (e.g., reinforcement, modeling, prompting).
Design a creative and individualized curriculum aligned with each child’s developmental goals and family priorities.
Incorporate inclusive, anti-bias, and culturally responsive materials in play and learning environments.
Offer a well-rounded experience through quiet/active, indoor/outdoor, and child-led activities.
Conduct Carolina and DAYC-2 screening tool assessments.

Family Support using the Routines-Based Interviews (RBI) model

Using the Routines-Based Interviews (RBI) model with families to identify functional goals rooted in the family’s daily life and routines.
Provide Direct modeling and Supportive tools to the parents during sessions using adult learning strategies to enhance caregiver skills and support their child in achieving IFSP goals and growth.
Clearly document family goals, action steps, and progress in a collaborative manner.
Facilitate ongoing communication and cultivate positive, trust-based relationships with caregivers.

Early Start Therapeutic Services

Provide personalized services according to the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), using informed clinical opinions and assessment data.
Encourage health and developmental outcomes by delivering direct intervention, modeling, and consultation to families.

Assessment and Data Collection Responsibilities

Observe and document the child’s behavior, communication, play, and adaptive skills during sessions and in natural settings.
Identify and document barriers to progress (e.g., environmental, behavioral, or family-related factors) that impact goal achievement.
Collect data regularly and update the Carolina Curriculum to reflect the child’s progress toward IFSP goals.
Summarize assessment results, data trends, and family feedback in progressive 6-month reviews.
Assist the psychologist and coordinators in acquiring necessary data and parent signatures for reports and authorizations.
Collaborate with the Program Supervisor to ensure all assessments are completed within required timelines.
Maintain accurate, detailed, and organized records of all assessment materials, parent interviews, and observational notes.
Use collected data to guide treatment planning and family support strategies, ensuring that goals remain meaningful and developmentally appropriate.

Behavioral Support

Develop and implement individualized strategies to address challenging behaviors while promoting functional communication and self-regulation. Model and provide behavior support strategies for caregivers and early educators as necessary.

Parent/Guardian Communication

Maintain open and respectful communication with families, providing updates, progress reports, and ensuring they are informed and involved in decision-making.
Offer guidance, emotional support, and community resources as part of a comprehensive, holistic approach.

Health, Safety & Environment

Ensure child safety and well-being during all service sessions, both at home and in the community.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with health and safety regulations.
Accurately and timely, complete all required documentation, including attendance, case notes, and progress reports.

Professional Development & Teamwork

Participate in reflective supervision, attend team meetings, and participate in mandatory ongoing training to enhance skills and ensure alignment with evidence-based practices.
Work collaboratively with internal team members, educators, and external professionals to support consistent implementation of developmental goals.
Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional ethics while contributing to a respectful and inclusive team culture.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development, Education, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or related field (required). OR
At least 32 units in Early Childhood Education and 4 years of professional teaching experience in early education, working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and families.
Minimum one year of experience working with children with developmental disabilities or delays.
Training or experience in behavior intervention (ABA, PBS, RBI, or similar), preferred.

Physical & Other Requirements

Ability to bend, lift, and move children (10-40 lbs), and engage with children in floor-based activities.
Work in varied environmental conditions and weather.
CPR and First Aid certification.
TB and School Immunization clearance.
Criminal Background Check clearance.
Mandated Reporter certification.
Proof of car insurance.

Supervision

Reports to Program Supervisor

Pay: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour. (Commute pay differs).

**All new hires will undergo a 90-day probationary period, commencing on their hire date. During this period, performance, attendance, and overall suitability for the role will be assessed. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, employees will be granted 48 hours of paid sick leave. Additionally, there is a possibility for this role to transition into a full-time position, which may come with additional benefits.**
