Summary
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all maintenance activities within the manufacturing facility to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment and facility systems. This position supervises maintenance personnel, plans and schedules maintenance work, manages the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), oversees spare parts and maintenance inventory, and provides hands-on technical support as needed. The Maintenance Supervisor plays a key role in maximizing equipment uptime, controlling maintenance costs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise, coach, train, and develop maintenance technicians and contractors.
- Schedule, assign, and prioritize all maintenance activities and technician workloads to support production requirements and business objectives.
- Monitor maintenance team performance and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with production, engineering, quality, and other departments.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as required.
Maintenance Planning and Execution
- Develop, plan, schedule, and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
- Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to create, prioritize, assign, track, and close work orders.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment histories, asset information, and performance metrics within the CMMS.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and coordinate resources to minimize downtime and restore production quickly.
- Troubleshoot and oversee repairs of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems.
- Ensure timely completion of preventive maintenance activities and identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability.
Equipment and Facility Maintenance
- Perform and oversee inspections, repairs, modifications, installations, and commissioning of manufacturing equipment and facility systems.
- Use visual, thermal, vibration, audio, measurement, and alignment inspection techniques to identify potential failures before breakdowns occur.
- Inspect, repair, replace, clean, lubricate, and adjust mechanical and electrical components.
- Dismantle, reconstruct, modify, relocate, install, and commission motors, gearboxes, spindles, clutches, brakes, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, machine frames, and other manufacturing equipment.
- Measure, cut, thread, drill, and install hydraulic and pneumatic piping and plumbing systems.
- Adjust control devices, instrumentation, and basic automation systems as required.
CMMS, Inventory, and Procurement Management
- Serve as the primary administrator for the CMMS and ensure accurate maintenance planning, scheduling, reporting, and asset management.
- Create, manage, prioritize, and monitor all maintenance work orders and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Establish and maintain spare parts inventory levels to support maintenance and production requirements.
- Source, procure, and manage maintenance parts, supplies, tools, and outside services while controlling costs and minimizing downtime.
- Maintain inventory accuracy and ensure critical spare parts are available when needed.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to obtain quotations, negotiate pricing, and coordinate deliveries.
Safety, Compliance, and Continuous Improvement
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and maintenance best practices.
- Conduct safety inspections and promote a strong safety culture within the maintenance department.
- Identify and implement reliability improvements, cost-reduction initiatives, and process enhancements.
- Support continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and Six Sigma initiatives.
- Analyze maintenance metrics and equipment performance data to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
Other Duties and Qualifications
- Experience with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Experience with PLCs, controls, and basic automation systems.
- Welding and fabrication skills.
- Knowledge of predictive maintenance techniques, including vibration analysis and thermography.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and Six Sigma principles.
- Strong organizational, planning, and scheduling skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience managing maintenance inventory, spare parts, and vendor relationships.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory, lead technician, or maintenance leadership experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience scheduling maintenance activities and managing maintenance personnel.
- Experience using CMMS software for work order management, preventive maintenance scheduling, asset management, and reporting.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety practices.
