Full Job Description

Irwin Car and Equipment is the heavy-duty material handling equipment leader, known around the world for delivering exceptional quality and customized precision in the metals, mining, tunneling, energy and transportation industries. Irwin Car and Equipment is proud of its 120-year-old reputation for building long-term and insight-providing relationships with our customers.

This position is for the S&K Steel Products division of Irwin Car and Equipment, in Madison Heights, MI. S&K is looking for a Shop Leader for its Die & Press Operations to supplement our team. S&K manufactures stamped, formed and machined parts in hydraulic presses, with broaching machines and in our CNC department.

This position reports to the General Manager of S&K.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Manage a Die & Press Operations staff of 4 to 5 people as a working team leader
Able to set up and operate machine tools such as lathe, milling machine, radial drill press, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts to specifications, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
Ability to maintain basic equipment (i.e.., Detroit Broach, hydraulic press, saws, etc.)
Studies blueprints of die and product, die models, templates, and prototype parts and visualizes shape, mechanical structure, and operation of die.
Able to lifts machined parts and position them for assembly on worktable or surface plate.
Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining by other workers
Verifies dimensions, clearances, and alignment of members and parts in die.
Must be able to alter dies from final build to production status.
Works to tolerances as close as 0
Report to General Manager
Work with CNC Operations Leader as necessary
Work in conjunction with Engineering on product / die issues, continuous improvement initiatives, etc., as well as outside vendors
Can drive and operate a forklift
Familiarity with ERP system
Good communication and team building skills
Competency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
Maintain production schedule in conjunction with General Manager, CNC department lead, shipping/receiving operations lead, etc.

Education:

- High School Diploma or equivalent.

Skills/Experience:

5+ years of experience with repairing dies
Familiar with a wide range of manufacturing processes including machining, welding, fabrication, and mechanical assembly.
Ability to read, and interpret blueprints and machine documentation
Ability to work in a group setting
Can approach a technical problem with a methodical problem-solving
Ability to plan and complete multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to communicate and work effectively across different departments and personalities while influencing others and building positive relationships.
Strong employment history with industry experience, long term track record preferred.
