Full Job Description

Mission: We are on a mission to make wellbeing the standard for St. Louis. We improve healthcare for families, advance socioeconomic equity, and activate conscious leaders.

Overview: The Youth Development Specialist Float(YDS) is responsible for working cooperatively with other treatment team members to provide a living environment that is safe, nurturing, and therapeutic at The Core Collective at Saint Vincent. YDS’s are responsible for overseeing therapeutic activities to facilitate the personal, social, and emotional development of young people.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be 21 years of age or older.
Must possess a minimum of one year of experience working with youth with adverse childhood experiences. An associate degree or a bachelor's in social services or related field preferred but not required.
Must pass Central Registry of Child Abuse and Neglect check, criminal background checks and pre-employment drug testing, and national fingerprinting scan
Must become certified in Safe Crisis Management (SCM), community First Aid/CPR, and Level I medication technician within 30 days of hire. (Agency provided training)
Must possess a valid driver’s license

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carries out the Mission of The Core Collective at Saint Vincent by:

Facilitate programming, events, and activities for at-risk youth.
Facilitate psychoeducational groups using an agency provided evidenced-based curriculum to assist youth with age-appropriate life skills development that they may need to live independently and develop healthy relationships.
Provide a welcoming presence onsite for youth, legal guardians, and family to engage with by answering questions, providing information, and facilitating engagement opportunities.
Ensure services are provided in alignment with the program philosophies of The Core Collective at Saint Vincent, including Housing First, Harm Reduction, Trauma-Informed Care, Strengths-Based approach, and Positive Youth Development.
Assist with welcoming new youth into the facility, work in a milieu with a multidisciplinary team to meet the immediate or urgent needs, as well as longer-term needs of youth experiencing homelessness or other adverse circumstances.
Conduct one-on-one coaching sessions to educate or reinforce developmental skills learned for the purpose of reducing presenting symptoms and skill-building.
Reinforce the goals and objectives of individual treatment plans for residents by positively reinforcing strengths and addressing areas for continued development.
Monitor behaviors and responses to irregularities or problems, which may include administering appropriate forms of consequences, including, but not limited to, use of a point level system, de-escalation techniques, and initiating safe crisis management to maintain the safety and security of the youth in care and attends to their needs in a nurturing way
Role model positive behaviors and coping skills for clients, using a strength-based approach in all interactions.
Attends team meetings, and other meetings for the purposes of sharing information regarding youth and discuss other matters pertaining to supportive housing.
Follow the agency schedule for routine youth activities, assist youth to prepare for school, meals, and other program activities, transport residents to and from school outings and other appointments.
Supervise youth in and around the building, assigns and supervises daily chores, assists with school homework, and encourages participation in recreational activities.
Responsible for the proper administration of medications and first aid per The Core Collective at Saint Vincent guidelines and policies.
Evening and night supervision may include room checks, laundry, housekeeping, and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Ensure that non-therapeutic notes, group notes, incident reports, and required unit documentation are completed in a timely manner prior to the end of shift.
Work in whichever apartment needed based on the needs and the behaviors of the youth.
Utilize SCM techniques to appropriately handle crisis situations and ensure that youth are referred to licensed professional resources as necessary.
Provide breaks to other YDS staff members as needed.
Maintaining courteous and professional relationships with leader, co-workers, youth, youth’s family members, and referral agency staff.
As required by HIPAA guidelines, all The Core Collective at Saint Vincent staff are required to refrain from discussing any youth behavior in the presence of other youth or disclosing youth identity outside of the facility
Act in accordance with all organizational and legal protocol, policies, and procedures
Other tasks as assigned

Knowledge in mental health, trauma, substance abuse, and homelessness.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, assessment tools, database systems, and Windows environment
