Full Job Description

Introduction

The Department of Safety and Professional Services mission is to promote economic growth and stability while protecting the citizens of Wisconsin as designated by statute.

What We Are Looking For: A detail-oriented individual with the ability to work independently to coordinate the legal projects, provide professional support to attorneys in the drafting of legal documents, and research legal and factual issues.

Where We Are Located: This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from the Hill Farms State Office Building in Madison, at least 2 days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are generally expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating the legal projects for Boards and the department as assigned, providing professional support to attorneys and attorney supervisors in the drafting of legal documents, researching of legal and factual issues, and management of templates and the policy and procedure library for the Division of Professional Credential Processing (DPCP) Legal Team’s established practices. Other duties include:

Proofread documents drafted by others, ensuring that legal documents are accurate, complete, and error-free.
Manage and update template library to be accurate and up-to-date and consistent with other legal teams.
Monitor DPCP Legal Queue and tirage responses and respond appropriately when directed.

Communicate effectively with Executive Directors, Chief Legal Counsel, Board Counsel, board liaisons, and License/Permit Program Associates regarding application files and Board Action list items.
At the direction of the team attorneys, file documents, such as pleadings, motions, briefs, and recommended proposed decisions and orders, with the Division of Hearings and Appeals and serve the same documents on opposing parties.
Make appropriate arrangements for hearings, including scheduling court reporters and coordinating appearances of witnesses at hearings.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range (07-04) with an annual salary of $57,200 - $73,840 plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have experience with all of the following:

Experience using computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Adobe, SharePoint, or comparable. Experience may include activities such as accessing emails in a shared mailbox, using AdobePro to edit PDFs, or performing multiple level filter and/or sorting within a spreadsheet.
Experience communicating with customers in writing.
Experience drafting legal documents.
Experience performing tasks with a high level of attention to detail. Experience may include activities such as drafting correspondence without grammatical errors or proofreading attorney drafts.

In addition, well qualified applicants will have experience with at least one of the following:

Paralegal certification, related degree or experience working in a paralegal role.
Experience working with state statutes and administrative code.
Experience with administrative law, criminal law or litigation.
