Full Job Description

Who We Are
Willow Behavioral Health is a growing outpatient behavioral health program in Madison, Wisconsin, offering Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) services for individuals navigating mental health and substance use challenges. We are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care and fostering long-term recovery through a compassionate and structured clinical environment.

Position Summary
Willow Behavioral Health is seeking a Clinical Program Director to lead and develop the clinical programming for our PHP/IOP mental health and substance use disorder services. This leadership role is ideal for a hands-on, experienced clinician who thrives in a start-up environment and wants to shape a high-impact program from the ground up. The Clinical Director will help build our team, facilitate therapeutic groups, and manage a small caseload as we grow.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development & Oversight: Design, implement, and evolve clinical programming aligned with ASAM criteria and evidence-based practices
Group Facilitation: Lead therapeutic groups as needed, especially in the early stages of program development
Caseload Management: Provide individual therapy and case management for up to 5 clients initially
Chart & Documentation Compliance: Conduct regular chart audits, review clinical documentation, and ensure all records support medical necessity and meet insurance and regulatory standards
Staff Training & Supervision: Train and guide staff on best practices for documentation, treatment planning, and maintaining compliance throughout the continuum of care
Clinical Workflow Management: Oversee the clinical process from intake to discharge, including assessments, progress notes, and discharge planning
Quality Assurance: Drive ongoing quality improvement efforts and ensure adherence to state, federal, and payer requirements
Team Collaboration: Partner with the Program Director and medical team to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field
Active clinical license in Wisconsin and can sign off on addiction and mental health notes.
Minimum 2 years of experience in mental health and substance use treatment, ideally in detox, PHP, or IOP settings
Strong understanding of ASAM criteria and documentation of medical necessity
Experience writing and training others on compliant progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries
Demonstrated ability to conduct chart audits and ensure documentation integrity
Effective communication, leadership, and team-building skills

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience as a Clinical Director or clinical supervisor
Familiarity with EHR systems and insurance utilization review
Knowledge of Wisconsin-specific behavioral health regulations and payer documentation standards
